Difference between Chally and Cuda rear ends?
« on: July 15, 2008 - 11:40:19 AM »
I stopped onto RingPinion.com after seeing their add in the Carlisle flier.  I browsed through the Make/Model section and they only had Challenger listed under the Chrysler/Plymouth/Dodge heading.  It shows the 8.75 rear, which I'm pretty confident I have.  But 'Cuda isnt' listed.

Were there differences between the 'Cuda and Chally rear ends?  I'm starting to research lockers and such for the rear (I'm trying to build a total price estimate for a radiator-to-diff rebuild on my Ebody,) and I'm quickly learning that I know NOTHING about differentials/axles/housings/etc...

There is no difference between E-Body Cuda and Challenger rear ends Jeff. They probably didn't list Cuda's and Challenger's together because there were A-Body Cuda's.   :dunno:

B-body rear?  is it still 8 3/4?  I'm guessing they're shorter axle shafts, correct?  But then you've gotta move springs, etc...  I dunno - for 500+ horsepower, I think some 275's or 285's will fit okay.  Nothin' too fancy.

So your going to completely rebuild the Cuda and buy a Viper? Wow, I think I need to get a job with a utilities company.

Well, depending on the year, yes, they are around two inches narrower and are still 8.75 rears.  Will allow you to put a 10" wheel  and up to a 315 tire in the fender well easily.

Take a 110% increase in pay and see what ideas it gives ya.  :)  Honestly though, the only frivolous purchase I've made since taking this new job was my wife's new Wii.  Now we're just paying off bills.  Cleared off another card last week and am paying off her car on August 1st.  So yes, buy the Viper then build the 'Cuda - that's the plan.

That's what I figured.  I really don't want that big a tire though.  I'm still building this thing to be a cruiser, not a drag-strip car, and whereas I wanna get good hookup, I also wanna be able to roast some rubber now and again!

And for what it's worth, I did a prelim budget on Friday and now it looks like the 'Cuda isn't really going to get crankin' until 2011.  I gotta get the Viper first - they're about to get expensive if/when Cerberus cans production.  Mopar parts will always be available.  As long as they don't keep getting arrested at Carlisle shows!   :bricks1:

66-70  b body is an inch or so shorter. I think the 66/67 is the shortest over the 68/70.
