Check out this driveshaft site...

So I've always thought it'd be cool to go with a Carbon Composite Driveshaft - lower weight, better strength, and lower rotational mass.  I started doing some searching and found this guy down in GA who makes them - check out his site:

http://www.wadonracing.com/CarbonFiberDriveshaft.html

I want to message him with some questions, but I want to get an idea of how long a shaft I'd need for my project before I go asking too many quesions.

That looks very cool. Is it a solid piece of carbon fiber or a seamed roll.

Anyone who knows how good a composite driveshaft would hold up to attrition?
I'm thinking mostly about how it would react to being hit by pebbles and suchlike.
What I'm trying to ask, how good is the lastabillity on the street?

Wade of Wadonracing said that they can make these for street/strip applications, but that they're more expensive - the shafts that they build are for DIRT TRACK racing...  which tells me that they'll hold up to rock and such just fine.

He said they could run about an extra $200 - about $850 - for a shaft because it'll be a thicker diameter, and have larger 1350 joints.  He also can sell a hardened tranny yoke with radial roller bearings for about $230.  I think he intends that for HIGH horsepower applications - 800+ would be my guess, so I don't think I'd need that.

From what I've researched already, $850 for a carbon driveshaft isn't a bad deal, and it'll take a TON more abuse than a metal shaft.  My only question is how do they balance them.  Wade gave me his number and suggested I call to cover remaining questions.

But he did reply to me, which is more than I can say for companies like Hennessey Motorsports...

I think we lost some of the posts from yesterday...But here is about what I said
Mightly expensive :2cents: What is wrong with something like this: http://www.dennysdriveshaft.com/c1_nitrous_ready_driveshafts.html I only have a mild steel one, so I can't comment on the rest. But these seem pretty much bullet-proof

I would think a regular driveshaft would suffice in most appllications, however it's not very exotic to have a "regular" driveshaft.

Yeah - that's basically it.  The Carbon driveshaft will still be tougher than the "Denny's," but yes, it would definitely suffice for what I need.

I'm kinda interested in the light-weight aspect of it.  Granted it's not going to shave off that much.  But yes - on top of it all, it'll be kinda unique.

I dunno - I'm not buying one today.  Just was doing some research and figured I'd share with you guys.

I mean - I gotta give a LITTLE more to this board than just pictures of MEK's pink houses...
