My question is that if the carb was flooded and sat for a few weeks, would it remain flooded for that long, do i need to drain the float bowls? I am assuming there is not a spark issue, because it tried to fire when I sprayed starting fluid in the carb. I would check some other options right now, but I am laid up for 2 weeks with facial surgery.

You do not need to drain anything. 
Flooded after 2 weeks?  .....Nope.

Next time you try starting it up, take the air filter off, spray a little starting fluid into the carb and crank her over.  Should fire up, if not you may have another issue as I once had.  Your ballast resistor may be shot.  Make sure the connections are on securely.  See if it is HOT.  I replaced mine because the factory one was acting up, giving me a "no start" problem.  The new ballast resistor was the culprit.  Good luck, hope you're healing OK, so you can get back out to the garage.

You can spray a whole can of starting fluid in a motor that's already had the rings washed off with gas and it won't start. You need compression for combustion.

You can spray a whole can of starting fluid in a motor that's already had the rings washed off with gas and it won't start. You need compression for combustion.

Priming a dry carb is the only reason I suggested using the starting fluid....to aid in a quicker start.  But if the problem is elsewhere, then I agree, a whole can of starting fluid will do no good.  Air, fuel, and spark is needed.

Ok, well i put my new fuel pump in and I have fuel now, but then I checked the spark and I have power in and out of the coil, but nothing at the sprak plugs. I am thinking that I blew the points and condensor out when I was trying to get it started. Off to the parts store. I wish this motor was going to stay in the car because then I wouldn't be upset with dumping money in it.

Well I put new points,condensor, car and rotor on the car and still nothing.  I am not sure if I set the points right or not, anybody got a good way to set them?

Did you throw a little oil into the cylinders to re-establish compression, just in case you washed the rings down before?

I think you gap the points at like .017" when they are open. Been along time since I've did that. I'm kinda surprised that you even found them at the parts store.

So how exactly did you establish that it isn't getting spark?

I have a light that connects between the spark plug wire and the plug itself. I don't think I washed all the gas off the rings, because I wasn't getting any gas into the carb. How do I get the points in an open position to set the gap?

IT IS ALIVE!!!!!  I got it started.  It turns out that I didn't have the distributor lined up correctly when I adjusted the points. As soon as I turned th key, without even giving it any gas, she fired right up. I stupid little $3 part. I think I will go pick up a few more in case it happens again.  Thanks again guys.

glad that is all it was. Might be worthwhile to do an electronic ignition swap. Small block stuff is easy to find at the wrecker (thinking distributor), spend some money on a new module and ballast and you can get it working cheap.
70 Cuda, 7.0L Gen-III Hemi, Viper T56 w/9310 gearset, 3.91's, Megasquirt MS3x v3.57, Innovate wideband, Firm Feel upper arms, torsion bars, springs and strut rods, QA1 DA shocks. I did everything on this car except the fancy paint stuff and I drive it...and I can't seem to stop messing with it....
