overhead consolette wiring?
« on: July 15, 2008 - 10:01:14 PM »
Hey CC members in need of your help in figuring out my overhead consolette light wiring on a rallye dash? My questions are everything seems to be hooked up properly but I have no power going to the door ajar switches that are near the door striker and my fasten seat belt light and low fuel light stays on after I turn on the ignition and they turn off when the ignition off so what do you think? tach amp temp work but the gas and clock don't. Any feedback is greatly appreciated!! Thanks Rob

1- How does the seat belt warning light work on a 70 gran coupe or se challenger I know this much when the ignition is turned on the overhead console fasten seat belt should come on and turn off after 10 or 20 seconds is there a relay if so where should it be located??
2 -should I have power to the door switches that are near the door striker like the front door switches have?
3-how may I tell if the low fuel relay is bad?

Hope this helps....

Door ajar switches mount at the rear, perpendicular to the striker.  Should be single lead switches.  big problem with them is making sure that they are grounded.  power comes through the blue wire that connects through the low fuel relay harness and overhead console harness.  i think the power comes from the low fuel harness black wire that connects into the tan 3-female power line.

low fuel challenge is to splice it into the fuel gage wire.  i wound up lengthening the wire, and splicing it into the 8 pin connector down by the emergency brake. :swaying:

haven't had any issues with the seat belt buzzer yet, but won't be surprised when it does go screwy on me.  :villagers:

if i am off the reservation on this, somebody keep me honest...willing to learn here as well.

thanks,

PHC :banghead:

Can you post a pic of the door ajar switches mounted.  I have a feeling I'm missing them.  Thanks for the tip on the low fuel, gonna have to try that.

Pretty sure you wanted a pic of the ones near the striker but I posted both. Rob

Thanks, that's exactly what I wanted.  So now I know.  They are missing.  Here we go again, something else to track down and install.  Can you access the wirig behind the interior quarter panel?  Again, thanks for the pics.   :2thumbs:

Yes, if you take the rear interior panels off, you can access the door ajar switches.  I like the photos posted...I wired my single pin door ajar switches straight on, but the pics posted have a 90 degree connection.  both will work, but i found out i had to shrink wrap the wire connections so that the 90 degree bend didn't kink up and fray...

btw, when i went to columbus good guys, i couldn't find a single challenger with an overhead console...so we might have to really work on backward engineering these things...good luck!

I haven't seen a SE yet to compare so I agree.  We need a SE expert to step in and help out.  So far this thread has helped me out big time.  Wish there was a thread dedicated to all the SE only quirks.  Thanks for sharing so far.  Chuck
