New guy intro
« on: July 15, 2008 - 11:17:11 PM »
Hello!
My name is Sean and I recently picked up a 72 Barracuda that is in need of quite a bit of work.  I've been wanting a Mopar, specifically a AAR Cuda for as long as I can remember.  My plans for the car are to build an AAR clone out of it.  It will be a lot of work but I'm up for it (as if cloning a different year car wouldn't be enough in the first place).  I'm located ina small town called Troy, about 20 miles away from St. Louis on the IL side of the river.  Since we just bought a house, my time is going to be concentrated on freshing it up little.  I'm full of questions but will spend some time going through the archives here as there apprears to be a wealth of information here!!!

Welcome!!
It is always great to have a new Cuda owner show up.  It looks like you have a plan and a good starting point.  There are a ton of very helpful people on here who can help you do whatever you want with the car.  I look forward to seeing its progress!

Welcome Sean

You will need an 8 3/4 rearend to replace the one you have , just for starters. And probably one of the cheaper items on your long list

Thanks for the welcome!  Yes, that rear end has got to go.  One of the many things I want to do to it.  I'll start a thread on the restoration in the proper area of the forum soon.  I've negotiated that the winter will be my car time and the summer will be for the house with my wife, balance is everything!  Gives me time to do research and to continue to plan the rebuild!  I've already learned quite a bit reading through the tech archives since I posted the intro.

I'll definately be checking in often, may not be able to offer much advise as I don't have that much experience with the car but will be cheering everyone else along!!!

Sean, welcome to the site - tons of info, knowledge, help and encouragment (the most important thing for some of us.)  Looks like you got quite a project in front of you, but a good basis to start on.  Is it all surface rust or is there some rot?  The driver's floorpan looks like it might be in decent shape.  I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.

Hi Greg!
The fenders are shot, trunk pan is too.  Rockers and frame rails are in decent shape.  The floor pan is somewhat questionable but I think it's mostly good, I can only see through the floor by the pedals - I will need to re-evaluate after I get the interior out and cleaned up a bit.  I think I'll be able to get away with patch panels for the rear quatrers.  Roof and inner trunk panels are good too.  Doors will probably need to be re-skinned, but we'll see.  I have a new windshield.  Oh, the inner fender wells are missing, I'll need those too.  Engine bay looks to be in good shape (except the missing wheel wells).

Hi Sean and welcome to the site. I'm also from IL just southeast of Belleville in New Athens. Looks like you have found a good start for your Cuda and this is the place to be for questions and answers. Good luck with the project and just so you know it took me 5 years to restore my 70 Cuda in my 2 car garage but worth every day of it.

  Welcome aboard Sean!  You found the right place to make some friends and get answers to your resto project.  I like the way you have recycled the old bed posts in the driveway!  Glad to see another Cuda given a second chance at life.

You will enjoy every minute of it. At least to start. Just stay focused on the prize at the end - Driving something that YOU built. :2thumbs:

Welcome, Sean.  Nice project.  I hope you are going to keep the blue on blue color.  You don't see many blue interiors.

Jeff, Great to make the aquaintence of another Mopar owner, especially one that lives fairly close by!!!  If you're ever in the Belleville area, let me know!  Especially if your in one of your cars!!!!  I'd love to see them!

Hey hooD!  Ya like the bed posts, eh!  hey make good chalk blocks in a pinch!!!

inot2old, don't know if the interior will stay blue yet or not.  Not even shure what the exterior is going to be other than having a blacked out hood, Strobe decals and a vinyl top!  If the blue AARs were optioned with a blue interior, it will definately be a consideration.
