Edelbrock 800 thunder avs carb
« on: July 15, 2008 - 11:37:36 PM »
Anyone tried the Edelbrock thunder series AVS 800 carb? It costs a bit more than the Performer 800. I am planning on getting an 800 for my 340 soon. I just have not had much luck with a Holly   :burnout:

Had the EPS 800 & 850DP Holley in a back-to-back dyno test on a built 440 and the EPS was within 5hp. I'd say go for it.

The new AVS has boosters in the secondaries instead of the down tubes to meter the gas like the old 60's AVS carbs. It's a much better carb and you can get tuning parts for it.

the AVS / Thunder is a Far better carb & is more tunable than the AFB style , but still not as good as the HP Holley or Proform for tunability

I believe that carbs are not the best thing Edelbrock does. Just my opinion after having several and then going to a new Holley built by the Carb Shoppe.
Look into why custom carb places don't do a heck of alot of Eddy carbs.

There was a '70 340 Duster in a Mopar magazine recently (don't recall which one) that has to use the AVS carb it came with and stock heads. It does mid 10's.
