Idle troubles

so The challenger Idles perfect in park but as soon as you go to reverse or drive it starts falling out any suggestions?
1972 Cuda Custom 70 clone  416 stroker 481/531 hp/
2006 Grand Cherokee SRT8 (daily)
1970 Challenger convertible 340 (Dad's)
1967 Dart gt slant six all original 40,000 miles driver but needs restoration (Brother's)
2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee (wife's)

If it's a holly carb, the power valve may be to big. You might need to drop it down some for the idle circuit.

Maybe air mixture screws are not correct

Maybe retarted timing

Maybe big cam and not enough converter

Vacuum leak?

Air was getting in under my carb. It had the same sympthoms.   :eek7:

Carter / Eddy carbs will do the same , the springs under the metering need to be lighter so they will stay down , in a similar way that the Holley powervalve works

thanks for all the suggestions.  could it be a leak at the intake gasket?

not likely , what happens is the vacuum drops in gear & either the powervalve or the metering rods are no longer held in position flooding the engine , , you could try plugging the hose to the brake booster , I have found a few engines that leaked there causing cly 6 & 7 to misfire
