Anyone else had the dangling lug nut? -pic-
« on: July 21, 2008 - 11:19:28 PM »
I was gonna play a little tonight but needed some gas first. I thought before I fill'er up I'd adjust (tweak-again) my new fuel sender, so my gauge will be more accurate. Ok so i'm gonna pull the left rear tire. I had to stand on a half inch breaker bar to move one of the lug nuts! And I have no air tools at home so this was only "hand " tight to begin with. It's loose now and dangling but I cant get her off! My first thought start grinding. I'm really afraid I'll mess up my wheel and center cap so torching is not an option. I figure a new wheel stud will be in order BUT... ? Anyone been there? Got a trick I'm not thinking of??

I had close to this happen but I could see a portion of the threads.  I used a dremel with a cut off wheel.  It took forever but I finally got it off.
:blah:Oh yeah, I usually have dangling nuts but don't really see that as a problem :blah:

I was trying to keep that aspect out of this but it has been rather warm here lately!  :roflsmiley:  :roflsmiley:

Sounds like somebody cross threaded it on with an impact gun. Sometimes you can just tighten it and snap the stud off. Failing that, I guess you have no choice but to cut it off.

let me see left side lug , Umm left hand thread right so you tightened it until it stripped  :dunno:
I would use a die grinder & cut away the lug nut

Can you or someone pull or lightly pry on the wheel while spinning the lug? I have did that before and it had worked for me.
