This thread just gave me a boner. Thanks.

My black 71 is going to have an AAR hood, spoiler and hood blackout treatment. Hopefully it'll be done soon. Bueller? Bueller?

The 71 grille and AAR hood are very aggressive together. The only "aggressive" element I'm leaving off of my car are the 70 tail lights. I want you to know it's a 71 from any angle. :)

Jess lives up the road some from me and I've talked with him about his set up both in person and on the tube. I think I've seen some specs some where, but I'd have to dig them up. I invited him to come over here and check us out, and hopefully join up, so hopefully you guys can ask him for as much detail as you want. I know it is still a fairly stock "appearing" set up with really big t-bars and fiberglass leaf springs. He did say that they raised the car a couple/few inches all around and removed the sway bars for the hill climb. Normally his car is in the weeds, stance wise. The engine is a very stoutly built small block. I believe there is a write up on his car in this months (Sept) Mopars Collector Guide. Might be worth picking up. FYI, the October Car Craft is going to have an article on the competition AARs.

 Hello everyone,

My name is Jess Neal and I own the "'71 Cuda on Pikes Peak."  Thanks HP2 for posting the info. Thanks to everyone for all the positive comments. You all have been great. I apologize for not letting the word out prior to the event but I had absolutely no idea anyone else would be interested. The car has a four page spread in the Sept. issue of Mopar Collector's Guide. Subscribe to it, it's worth it. I even put their name on the trunk since they put the car in print.
I'll take a stab at answering some questions.
My original goal with the car was to have it look like something Gurney would have driven had he continued in '71 that's why the AAR features on a '71.
The engine is a small block that made 582 hp here in Colorado Springs which is at 6000ft. 4 speed tranny with an old DC aluminum main case and Passon aluminum tailshaft housing. Fiberglass mono-leafs holding the 8 3/4 which I had 4.30 gears mounted on a TruTrac diff by Mark Williams for the hill climb to help launch off the switch backs. Removed the rear lowering blocks, cranked up the t-bars, removed the sway bars, mounted grooved BFG radial T/A's, took 6 jet sizes out of each hole in the carb, strapped in a video camera and hoped for the best.
 Pikes Peak:
My goal was to just make it to the top of the beast but I got a little more. I finished fifth, three seconds out of third despite spinning the car in Tin Barn turn! My absolute favorite section of the highway was on the pavement from Glen Cove to Devil's Playground. Nothing but switch backs and hundreds to thousands of foot dropoffs. That's where I was in the picture posted by Aaron Beck where I'm steering into a drift. Aaron we need to talk, how do I download that picture and did you take them? If so, do I owe you something for them? If not, who did? Awesome shot, someone was on it! Perfection, back tire spinning with a wisp of smoke coming off, steering into the drift, reflection of spectators and mountain on the roof, snow on the side, etc.

 Take care and thanks again,

 Jess

That is definitely an awesome car you have there.
I love that section of the road also.  Glen Cove to Devil's Playground.
Havn't ever had a chance at it without people on it though.
That must have been the best to make that run!
Good job at 5th, I am sure you will improve time next year!!

Thanks, We'll see if they have a vintage class next year. It's a strong possibility if enough people let PPIHC know they either want to participate or buy a ticket to spectate if the vintage class returns. Everyone needs to go to the website, www.ppihc.com and let them know. I screwed up by not taking the opportunity ot commit to film the fact there was a '51, '61, and a '71 Mopar there in the same class! DUH!

Hey, Jess. I guess we need to offer a belated welcome to C-C.com, since I see you actually joined about two years ago.  Please introduce yourself in the Newbie section and let everyone who isn't monitoring this thread a little bit about you and your car.

i think he is also using a rack and pinon steering set up,i dont know what kind , its is an old set up someone installed on the car when he bought it,origonally it was a 383 3speed on the tree shift car, pretty sweet car!i did get the pleasure of riding in it at 2nd creek ,and man its is so fast, its hard to explain! :droolingbounce:
