New Challenger? Or Old Dodge Demon?
« on: July 22, 2008 - 01:28:30 PM »
I'm planning on a new car next year but not sure if I want to take the plunge and save for a down payment on a new challenger, or buy a nice rust free running driving dodge demon 340.  Wanted to know what you guys would do

Demon for sure.  I'll bet you will never see one pull up to a stoplight beside you!  There will be lots of Challengers around.

I'm with the Demon.  I'm kinda shopping around for a nice '67 to '69 Valiant two door, or pre-smog Duster/Demon.  Hoping for a slant six or 273 and I'll add an overdrive 4 speed for economy reasons.

New Dodge. If it were a 2nd Gen Charger (68), Roadrunner or E-Body I would have gone with the classic.

I would say new Dodge, but it is kind of a tough comparison.  You're looking at a $40+K car versus a $8-12K car.

How do you plan to use the new car?

As an daily driver, or weekend cruiser? If an everyday car, then I'd say the new Challenger.    :2cents:

My daily driver is dead. The '69 is getting me around.I'm looking for a /6 Demon. Rather drive an old car,I can't fix the newer stuff. It gets expensive quick!! My buddy scored a '71 /6 Demon for 1800 bucks. He just passed emissions! I'd love a new Chally though...   If I can swing it cash wise I'd go that route. I'd own it forever. So to me it makes some sense to spend on a new car. But I like the Demon too. :dunno:  I feel your pain. :-\

Not only how are you going to use the car, but what other cars do you have?  And what about the insurance costs?  Demon is much cheaper to insure.  I wouldn't worry too much about fuel mileage - that will be a wash - but the new car will be far more reliable.

If it's for daily driver, for me it would've been the new Challenger, no doubt.
Just because of the higher level of safety.

For fun, it just comes down to what you like. Either way should be good, it's up to you which one you prefer. :smokin:

Put 40K into a demon and you will smoke any new challenger out there.  For that matter put 20K into a demon and you will still smoke all the new challengers.  Blow up your demon at that price and you can do it again.
