Western State Special,,Documentation for 1970 ????
« on: July 22, 2008 - 11:30:12 PM »
Can someone please explain the Western State Special option and maybe provide some documentation of the WSS?

I thought that the WSS was a group of cars that were special ordered by dealerships that were only available in the western state that included the special paint code 99 of the color Omaha Orange.  Was that 68 and 69 only?  Ordered by one zone manager in charge of a region of chryslers dealership network.  He sent so many cars out in the omaha orange colors because he wanted the cars to stand out.
This is what I have read anyway.

WSS is Western Sport Special. It was available on 1969 Dart and 1970 Challengers, there was no limitation on colors.

There was a group of 99 Orange Barracudas in 1969 or so, maybe you have the two confused?  :dunno:

In my decoding  book it lists the WSS as a 69 option only.  Listed as A78.
  A78 is different for 71.

For 1970 the WSS code is A91 on the Challengers.

For 1970 the WSS code is A91 on the Challengers.

Correct. The A91 package consisted of:

Vinyl Roof
Wood Grain Instrument Panel applique w/standard dash
Remote Control Driver Side Mirror
Rim Blow Steering Wheel
Sill Moldings
Belt and Cowl Moldings

That's pretty cool.  On a T/A even.
I sure would like to see what the front splash pan scoop looks like.
Are there any other stickers on the car aside from those on the back?

The decals were added to the T/A.

It is a real T/A, but not a WSS.

Sorry, forgot the word molding there. It's just bright trim on the opening below the grille like SEs have.

I think I understand where I got confused.  I was mising up the Western SPORT  Special with the Western STATE special.
The western STATE special came with the OMAHA Orange color.
The western sport special is totally different and didn't have limitations of one color.
I am trying to locate the articles of the fleet package with the option code with the special paint of OMAHA orange.  I remember the paint code was 999 in 1969.
When I locate the info I will scan it and post it.
Thanks alot for all the info guys!!  I have learned alot from this thread and the links involved.  And as usual, thanks Barry for all the awesome info on your great site.   Keep it up!!
