Rear axle help with seal install direction [ or ]
« on: July 24, 2008 - 12:51:06 PM »
I need some help.  I'm not sure if the seals in teh axle are in the right way so while I'm getting new bearings on teh axle shafts I might as well make sure everything else is right.
The service manual really doesn't show a good pic of the seal installed and doesn't reference which way it goes in.
So anyone got a pic?  Right now the seal looks like it is installed like this ]
Is that right or should it be installed like this [

This is the inner axle seal just after the bearing assembly on the axle shaft.

Also the service manual says to run SAE80 and add the suregrip additive.  I don't have a straight 80 at the local auto store, so should I run the SAE90?

Thanks, that is what I thought but the driver side was one way and the passenger side another, it looked like
]====O====]

Glad I went the extra step to replace the seals and gaskets when doing the gear swap.  I can't believe with all the problems the rear still worked in the car.
