My new ' 70 Cuda
« on: March 30, 2004 - 08:04:12 AM »
This is my new Gran Coupe. Car came to Finland 1997 from California. I buy it last autumn and total restoration is going on. This is 383 2bbl car but because I'm old racer I wanted little more engine. Parts for 499cid engine are on the way from USA. ;D ;D

Picture is taken when I bought this car. The body is now stripped and I'm working hard to get everything ready before summer 2005.

Well, shipping costs + taxes + customs means that for example 1300usd Edelbrock heads are worth of 1800usd when arrived to my garage....

Here is one picture after paint removal.

Welcome to the board FC70!   Looks like a great project.  What are your plans for her beside the engine?

Body; FE5 Rallye Red with black vinyl top. 499 Hockey Sticks.

Interior: as original as possible + Rim Blow

Brakes: I hope 4 x disc. Otherwise original drums

Suspension; Edelbrock IAS shocks, rear sway bar, XHD springs

Wheels: 7 & 8x15 Rallyes with 225/275-60-15 BFG

I was lucky because my friend has been in California during this winter and most of the parts are on the way from USA or already at my garage!

Cool mate!  :D A Red on Red Cuda is going to look awesome!  :D

Tell me about shipping costs! $550 USD to get a console + Shifter to New Zealand, and thats just for shipping NO console!!
Then there's $125 USD to get it through customs!!  :-\ :'(  ::) ;)

Just curious, do you like the look of thr rim blown, or are you wanting a smaller wheel?
I was looking at getting that wheel until I heard they were the same size as the padded wheel, feels like driving a bus so I decided to look for a tuff wheel, smaller and have a fatter grip.
Just offering another option in case you were unaware of the tuff wheel.  :)

Cheers,
NZ

Hi Arctic, a fellow country man  :grinyes: and welcome aboard.
I take you live closer to arctic circle due that name... I'm living down south in Espoo

Hey, where the hell did ya get those splash shields?!?!?!?!?!?  :dontknow:

Well..hmm, a short story of "how to get parts to Finland". I used to travel past 6 years or so a lot in US for work. A total a have been there about 50+ times. EVERY, I mean EVERY single trip i had parts for my Chally in a suitcase, in boxes, in my friends suitcases etc.
Every songle moving part in the car has been carried in suitcases back to Finland  :grinyes:... AND most of the "static" parts... oh well, basically everything is carried from US in suitcases except those that didn't fit in  :grinno:
What did I "win" was ~5% of customs + 22% VAT and dealer profits. And in some cases I could buy parts tax free in US because I took them abroad  :grinyes:.. sooo think of it a huge saving while ya buy 85% of your car parts and "hand-carry" them back home  ;D

Well, at least many of my colleaques and friends have had great time laughing my "business trips" with carrying rear ends, locker units, cranks, cams etc etc etc thru customs w/o getting ever caught!!! And our customs limitation is ONLY 200$!!
But hey, I'm verbally talented, not shy at all... and of cource "second" bills always with me.

Today I bought Wilwood Disc brakes for the Chally, it was 980$ deal with current Euro to Dollar conversion so not bad at all... buying parts from US now is really worthy thing while the Euro was 1,34 Dollars today  :guitar:
Dementia already from the year...mmmm ???

Hi Challenger500, as you told - I'm living in northern Finland, 60 miles from Arctic Circle.

Hmm, I can see that you are very lucky because of your trips to USA. I am buying most of parts via Aulis or direct from USA. Also, I'm living near Sweden and that makes my life sometimes little bit easier.

Splash shields are original, only one was missing and I got it from Ebay. Little soap and water made those look pretty nice... to be honest that took one day.

What kind of Wilwood set did you buy? My brake set up is still open but my choice is SS Brakes.
