HD Radio
« on: July 25, 2008 - 03:26:32 PM »
Alot of radio stations are going to HD.  I was wondering if anyone has bought a radio with this capability and any problems getting it to fit in the stock radio slot.

Most HD radios are standard radios (single DIN).  The HD comes from a box about 5" x 5" x 1.5" that plugs into the back, like the Sirius boxes.  You just have to find a place to stash the HD box.

BTW, HD Radio does NOT stand for hi-def. It's the same fidelity as FM, they just copped HD to cash in on the hi-def hype.

Then what's the diff? I have Sirius and it sounds better than regular. I'll have it forever.

HD is "hybrid digital" but you're probably right that it's no accident they chose those initials.

any single din radio fits the e-body opening....where you must be careful is not to get one with "motorized" fronts that must open to insert a disk as the lower dash trim is in the way.
I have been studying HD & Ipod ready radios for a while......here is one of the lowest priced pieces I have found....most higher end brands require a separate HD box be added for $100-200   Also they sometimes ask $25-50 for Ipod interface cables....this unit includes both

That sounds like a really good deal.  What would the shipping costs be for that to Seattle Washington?  I'm probably going to buy something in mid september since it looks like I won't begin to put my engine in until August.  They hopefully will start building my transmission this weekend and will have it available the second week into the month.  I was promised I'd be driving by now and I've been having a hard time getting ahold of my engine builder for the last month.    :blah:

It is going into a convertible and I know it will start raining here when I finally can drive the car after two years of sitting.  It will be worth it but it has been a long two years.

My source show back ordered today, w/shipping would come to about $125.
I see some good prices on line, Circuit City has it for $139 w/free shipping, see if your local store stocks it
this place runs $120 shipped, I don't know anything about them

You could contact Crutchfield with this &  see if the will "meet comp", that's what I'd try

They have a decent price on a pair of 6.5" speakers if your doing the kick panels (depth may be a problem @ 2.5")

or 3.5"s for the dash

I used these for my kick panels for their shallow depth 1 3/4" but they don't sound that great

Saw this $50 rebate at one e-seller & thought it was bogus...buuuuuut would be worth giving a try if you don't mind using your cell phone to register. The HD5212 + other model & brands qualify.
