Too loud
« on: July 25, 2008 - 10:25:04 PM »
Whats up guys.  Right now I have a 3" exhaust out the side(like a T/A) on my challenger and it is way to loud.  I almost got a ticket for them being to loud but he let me slide this time.  It has thrush mufflers but I cant find the part number on them to see which model is it.  I think its their 2 chamber mufflers.  Does anyone know where these mufflers have the part number or how to tell them apart?  Also whats a good muffler that wont be to loud but wont hurt performance and sound good? Thanks

If a cop gives you a ticket for being too loud, dispute it if there are any Harley Davidson bikes running around. Some of them have exhaust so loud its insane. Tell the cop you will accept a ticket when they start giving them out to all the thumpers out there making real noise. I have always wondered why there are two different standards for noise pollution when everyone knows that bikes are MUCH louder.

"Loud pipes save lives".  Plus many hardcore bikers are very large guys that have bad tempers.

Trust me guys its not to loud for me.  And Ive had plenty of run ins with the cops.  The judge will be on there side all the time unless you have real hard evidence so I dont want to play that again.

It will be considered a modified exhaust and you will have to end up paying. Unless you get lucky like I did once in 89 and tell them it is incomplete and the car will be done soon. Hard to get muffler for that car. Worked for me---case was closed :2thumbs:

WOW, most cops I've run into a really cool as long as you aren't doin' donuts out in public.
But I guess with most cases there is always someone wanting to hard time an innocent guy. Like was said before, how many bikes go by at 12:30 in the morning cracking the throttle or the goof ball teeny-bob that wants to make sure everyone in a 1/2 mile radius can hear his crap.

But anyway, I don't know how to tell them apart, but right now myself I'm running Flowmasters, and while they make noise, they are not what I would call loud enough for a ticket.
As far as what sounds good to you, find some cars at local shows and ask them what they are running if you like their sound and level of noise.

You think if I went to a 2 1/2"  instead of the 3"  would help?

its no small block.  its a pretty stout 440.  Do you think going with the 2.5 will make a big difference?  What about 3" to the muffler and 2.5 out?

I bought the t/a mufflers and tips.. sounds really nice... not to loud.. my brother has a an exhaust a little quitter than mine.. he was pulled over a few houses away, my dad went out and the cop told him his exhaust was to loud and that he would ticket him the next time...
