its no small block.  its a pretty stout 440.  Do you think going with the 2.5 will make a big difference?  What about 3" to the muffler and 2.5 out?

This works great if you have an H or X pipe.  It allows each cylinder to use both mufflers and tail pipes so the 2.5" doen't hurt you.  And 2.5" tail pipes are alot easier to run.

Hey 73 challenger I got a few questions for you.  First is where did you buy your mufflers, what size pipes did you use, do you know if they are good for performance, do you have an x pipe and on your sig it has a link to a video of your car but its not working do you still have that video?  Also when you guys mention tailpipes are you talking about running them out the back?  I really want to keep the side exhaust.

Well it happened again.  Not even 2 min into the drive and I spot a cop.  He was ahead of me and he pulled to the side so I flipped so I dont drive by him and he get behind me.  So he flips one and were off.  I was right by my house so I just floored it got in the drive way and I went in the garage.  He slowly passed by my drive way a couple of times looked but ended up leaving.  I dont want to be doing this all the time so Im taking her to the exhaust shop this week.  Heres a video but I took it with my cell phone so you cant really tell how loud it is plus it sounds like crap on my phone.

So I found out what mufflers I have.  They are Thrush welded mufflers part #17657 its a 3" exhaust from headers to the muffler and out the side so its a really short system.  The muffler shell is 4"x9.5" by 13" long.  Just want to see if you guys have any last opinions now that I know what muffler and a video even though its not a good one.  thanks

I bet it is the side exit that is nailing you. Best bet is to just put some mellower mufflers on it and be done. Good luck with it.

I have X pipes with three inch exhaust and Flowmaster 40's on my 360 and it's sounds amazing.  I never get hassled by the cops.  Do you live in a smaller town?

I've heard the X pipes are more efficient, and a bit quieter than the H pipes. I'm not sure if this matters in this equasion or not.   :dunno:

That bubble wrap won't do much for sound deadening and it's going to stink when it gets hot...

Now that sounds nice! But seriously, if it isn't louder 73's clip you must have done something else to get the attention you're getting.

Does not seem too loud to me.  :dunno:  :clueless: If you have not been a bad boy to get them on your ass then I would just drive it and when they ticket you claim innocent and tell the judge that they are harassing you.

Right now Im up in san ramon for training but when I get back Ill try to get a better sound clip so you get a better idea.  Right now it looks like im going to go with either 2.5" maybe keep it 3" but will put an X pipe and different mufflers.

Unless the cop has a db meter on hand he can't site you for loud exhaust.
