I bet they are hassling you because the pipes come out the side of the car.  I've got 3" super 40s on my cuda and I haven't had any problems with the cops *knock on wood*, but mine are dumped at the rear axle. 



I bet if you dump yours under the car you won't be ticketed.  The sound really projects out the side of the car with the aar/ta style exhaust.  All that sound hits the cars in the other lane, thus drawing more attention to you when the cops drive by. Some of my friends have the exhaust dumped with the turndowns angled in and it helps cancel out some of the sound, but it still sounds good.

72 hemi Ive heard that about them having to have that db meter but Ive never heard it stand up in court.

Not wanting gasses getting in the car I had mine go all the way back.  Set up to exit at the cut outs in the rear pan.



A little quieter inside and have never had any attention from the constabulary.

I know a lot of cars here can match their exhaust volume with performance but I often see cars around here with a big LOUD exhaust, way overkill and it makes the car look shlte. When they floor it the sound makes the car sound faster than it looks....makes me laugh. Quieter matches the cars performance in most cases. If it's real loud, even with a modded engine, it can still look like the car should be faster due to the engine noise. Having said that, Madeline will be running DMH electric exhaust cutouts. :biggrin: Not sure about up there but down here a car's exhaust note can't be deemed noticbly louder than how it would have come from the factory. A lot is left to be desired with this rule and it usually comes down to simple judgement. A 440ci with no mufflers will obviously fail lol.

It'll stand up, at that point it is just opinion on noise level and in order for the court to make you pay they have to be able to back it up with a db reading.

I say leave it as it is. I am with 72 on this one. A buddy of mine got out of the ticket that way. I however didnt know about that and got the ticket and just told the judge " I replaced the mufflers, here is the recipt. can we lower the fee"  they dropped it by 100 and i only had to pay 80. big ticket for "louder than stock exhaust" which i told the cop it was BS as a bunch of ricers went by  :swear:

Looks like a Mid eighties Camaro undercarriage to me.  The black thing is an aftermarket torque arm that helps plant the rearend for traction.  Those cars came stock with wimpy torque arms but the one in the pic is pretty stout. I'm not sure what brand it is...
