Noob here. Help me ID this burnt junkyard Challenger/engine.

The engine is from the 1972 model year from the Trenton engine assembly plant.

Very cool find, but it sucks the car isn't in better condition.  Hopefully you'll be able to get the engine cheap (which I wouldn't see why not), but maybe check to see what they would want for the entire car.  While many of the parts may be charred beyond recognition, the remaining salvageable parts may be worth more than what they're asking/offering for the entire car.   It's always good to be able to help out someone else looking for parts to put their car back on the road sooner.

The thought crossed my mind. It's seriously jacked though. Warped from heat and dented and rusted through in some places besides.

It would make a good Mad Max though.

I wouldn't go past $500 for it.  Doesn't look like too much is usable.

Looks like the car was set on fire

As opposed to caught fire accidentally?
 What makes you believe it was "set"?

I think the fire came from the carb. Wreck or blowout damage on front pass fender too.

Sure would like to know what the fender tag readout is.  You never know.  This could be  a rare car in need of a restoration.   Check the cowl and radiator support numbers to see if they match the fender tag also!!

Looks like the car is somewhere around   ElCentro, CA.   Just gotta love obscure junk yard finds!!
