I'm sure that could be taken care of. Prolly end up with a firewall hump. Wouldn't handle, but it'd be fast.

I agree, for the price you pay to build a cummins, you're still gonna beat it with a gasser.   :grinyes:

I believe the cummins engine and trans weighs in around 1500 lbs or so. Not including the intercooler and accesseries. You would be better off finding a smaller diesel engine then the dodoge truck engine.  A gm had a 350 gas conversion block type. Easier it install in a car like the monte

I have also thought about that.  I did see a Dakota with the Cummins at the drag strip.  It did mid 13s in the quarter and the owner said it got 30mpg on the highway.  I like your thinking.   :2thumbs:

A cummins is more expensive and heavier initially, but that's because it's stronger and capable of making more power more easily with less money in mods.

Old GM diesels are junk and incapable of making much power without going poof. Take it from a GM guy.

Have you seen the Duramax in the Impala smoking the lambo?

That proves it's doable....and imagine the mileage you'd get. To make that much power with a gasser, the mileage and driveability would go down the tubes...and you couldn't flog it all day every day.

Now, all this is not to say that a big block is not awesome...I'm trying to get my hands on a 440, remember?

You just gotta try driving a hopped up Cummins, preferably one with a stick...then you think good grief, if it makes this 7k lb truck go that fast, how fast would it be in something that weighs half as much.

I have been seriously considering this swap for my Charger as it has over a 6' long hood , , I do not believe the Cummins ETB is as heavy as 1500 lbs , closer to 1000 from what I can tell , re-inforcing the frame is a must though with the massive torque the engine produces + you get the benefit of far better milage as well with all the power
I did see a Duramax swap into a 67 Impala making over 1200 ft lbs of tq

Exactly.  I think the impala beat a lambo in a drag race. Prolly on youtube. The previously posted video shows it's doable. A cummins is about 6' from fan to trans tailshaft on a 2wd nv4500 5 speed.
The OTHER option that would be easier and maybe make more sense would be a 4cyl =  4bt. Little lighter and 7-800 lbs I think and  a lot shorter.
