Fuel leak!!!! HELP please
« on: July 28, 2008 - 02:19:29 PM »
Well, my cuda is just about ready to go (fist time in 14 years). I have been strugling with a fuel leak.

I thought is was the fuel line going into the carb, so I thightened the living crap out of the fitting and thought that I had it.

Well fired it up today, still leaking, the line and fitting are dry, but gas is puddeling in the intake.

The gas appears to be dripping from the secondary throtle shaft right where the vacume canister, attaches and only happens when the engine runs! Arghhhh.  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

This is a new 750 cfm vac secondary Holly that I bought last year, so it is out of the waranty period. :banghead: :swear:

Any suggestions.

Rap the body of the carb with the but of a wooden handled hammer.
Maybe needle not seating and letting carb flood?   :dunno:

Check all the fittings and screws on the carb.  There might be one that is just loose enough to allow gas to seep out when the system is under pressure with it running.

Are you saying the gas is dumping INTO the carb? If so, your float level is probably set too high for the secondaries.

Not sure if that is the case.

The gas is leaking at the base of the carb, the only place it is wet is right where the vacume secondary linkage attaches to the secondary throtle shaft.
I will try the needle and seat.

The secondaries are wet.  I am not sure if the boosters are dripping when running, but they sure seem to be when it is not (I am running an electric fuel pump with reg and PSI is at 5lbs right now).  I think I have an extra needle and seat around, I will give that a try.

I guess it could be a sunken float to....hmm.

well, rapped the needle and seat with a screwdriver handle, did not work.

Replaced the needle and seat with an extra I had, still seems to be leaking.

 :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I will check it again tonight and see if it is still leaking!

I will also check the float bowl screws and make sure they are all tight.

After that, I am out a of ideas...any one else???
