brake control 08 Ram
« on: July 29, 2008 - 09:38:21 AM »
I bought an 08 Ram 1500 it has the fuse for a brake control unit and a factory plug for wiring harness under the dash, there is a 4-way flat connector out back that I have hooked to a 7 pin connector, I need the brake control to tow my trailer with, there should be a blue brake wire connected to the plug, it is not on the 4-way flat, do you know where this wire is located at?

The truck came with the 4 pin and not the big round one?  Weird, I know all the older stuff like we have is the 4 pin, but I thought anything newer should have the 7.  I know the wire you're talking about, and you have to hook it up outside the 4 pin, but I wouldnt know where to look.   :clueless:

Yeah Dodge service don't mess with them either. I have everything but the wire  :clueless:

why would you have a factory plug for your harness and not the brake control wire out back??? :dunno:

Are you saying that you have this hook up under the dash but no blue wire? (just red, white and black)

there is a harness under the dash for the brake control, out back there is only a 4 way flat with green, white, brown, black wires, I have it going to a 7 way jack for my trailer, but there is no blue wire for the brake control that I see anywhere under the back of the truck, if there was I could attach it to the 7 way no problem

that's great, how did you get all those?  I have the diagram for the 7-way, I know where the trailer brake controll fuse and plug in harness is, I wouldn't know those without looking at each one

This pic shows a 7 wire and a 4 wire. Are you sure you don't have both?

So it has the plug for a brake control under the dash but not a 7 way connector in the back?  :clueless:  Both my `97 and `04 plugged right into the factory harness-even same brake control wiring- but they both came with trailer tow packages.

looked last night and only the 4-way, went to the local dodge dealer and looked and they all had the 4-way, didn't see the 7 way on any of them.  I'm stuck now, need to get this done before the Nats.  Maybe a trailer place can figure it out?
