A rare sight
« on: July 29, 2008 - 07:04:04 PM »
Hi,
I am curious to hear how many first generation challengers that you have seen driving on the road. It is a very rare sight for me to see a challenger driving on the road. I probably only seen about 3 so far in my life. :-[ Do not include car shows you went to or car cruises. Those don't count. :nono: :)

I assume you mean the old first generation Challenger?   :dunno:

Yep, I'm with you. I only have seen a couple since I got the bug in 2000. They were of the 72-74 variety. Even doing a local cruise-in, I am usually the only 70 there.   :1zhelp:

I've never seen another Challenger on the road here in Austin (EvilTwinATX I'm looking out for your car now that its roadworthy).

I saw a couple at Texas Toybox's display at the Texas HeatWave, but those don't count.

If I see one a year outside of shows, I'd be surprised.  Although I see a Barracuda every day on my way home from work, parked in a driveway collecting dust.  I'll take a photo some time.

I see a few a year. I know most of the folks in my area that own and drive them. When I do see ANY old Mopar I usually try and see if I can catch up and maybe yell to them at a stop light. I know they sometimes think I'm nuts :screwy:, but I just want to check out the car and driver and you know the rest of the story.  :drool:When I see one in the area, I usually try and figure out if it's just passing through or new to the area. The local cruise-ins is where the newbies show up and end up becoming club members. I'm just an old car freak. What can I say!!

I actually see at least 6 a year where I live here in Salida, Colorado.  I do live in one of the paths of some of the coolest driving in the country.  So I see lots of passers through.  Not to mention the few that live here around me.

None on the road while driving my Challenger.  Maybe one that I can remember not driving it.  It was like 4 years ago.   :clueless:

In Massachusetts, of the first gen. just 1- a white '70.  Saw it coming at me and recognized the lights, was driving home with the kiddies and did a quick u0turn and I started yapping about seeing an old Challenger.  Kids couldn't understand why I followed it through the next 5 towns.  It was just beautiful seeing one of these on the road.  Like no other car.  It's not like seeing them at a car show or something.  Seeing them in their environment is so different.

I saw my first 2009 Challenger today and the same deal.  I've seen so many pics of the new challenger I'm bored with it but to see one on the road driving around is totally different.  Like seeing a lion in a zoo vs on the plains of Africa in it's environment.

I have seen a few others on the road since I got mine, but not many; maybe in the 6-10 range.

There is a guy that owns a 70 R/T here in my town and I usually see him at least once a week.  We try to hit the local cruise nights and at one of them there are a few e bodies that show up.  Last Sat there was another 70 Chally but we didn't get a chance to talk to the guy.  Still, the e bodies are rare compared to other cars and always get lots of lookers.

Last winter, as i came out of the book store in port richie, fl, there was a black 70 challenger sitting on a flatbed truck. It was a bare shell just out of the body shop. All it had was the stainless brake + fuel lines. No doors, fenders etc. It was  a really good job. Inside and underneath were so good that time machines 5 miles up the road must have done it. The guy was in chillis i guess eating. What a time too forget the camera.

When your as old as me, having mine 33 years, i've seen thousands. A secretary at work had a 72. I even went out with a girl with a silver 70 318 back in 82. They were everywheres.

After 7 years of local shows, last month the first chall. showed up, a 70 383. Way more cudas than challengers. A few years ago, there was a black 74  at walmart everyday. He worked there. But tampa is mostly cheby country.
