Rear defogger wiring question...
« on: July 29, 2008 - 10:51:20 PM »
Hey guys,
I am trying to wire a rear defogger into my 70 Challenger (did not come with it originally). it has a three way switch (off, low, high).
When I look at the wiring diagram, the difference between low and high is the low speed has a higher gage wire (more resistence) and high speed has a lower gage wire (less resistence). well, both of these wires splice together somewhere before they get connected to the blower unit.
My question is: how long is the two wires before they both splice together to connect at the blower?  :pullinghair:
any help would be GREAT!

thanks!

Hey PHC,

First off, there were two different types of motor wiring. One motor with a single lead connection to the wiring harness and one thru a resistor coil mounted on the motor fan housing. The harness for the single motor lead is doing the resistance work with the wire gauge as you said. Either way, you connect thru the power to switch harness and then into the front to rear harness.

Hope that helps.

Slotts,
Cool beans!  Thanks...I have the one like the picture on the left...my last question:  I don't have the harness, so am going to create the dual gage wire harness on my own, but just need to know how long to run the two different gage wires before I slice them into one wire...can you help me please?
thanks a million!!

I have an extra original single line harness with new hoods and spade terminals for $20 plus shipping if your interested.

Kenny,

PHC decided he wanted me to ship this wiring harness to him. When I read his address this morning, turns out he is a fellow Pittsburgher.
We met after work and he now has a wiring harness. Since he didn't understand what your instrument cluster post was about here, I explained the story.
The Australia box was regarding your cluster. :smilielol: Looks like you will be getting double teamed! :roflsmiley:

My pleasure meeting you PHC and will see you at the Nats. :2thumbs:
If you get a moment, it would be great if you introduced yourself in the newbie section and remember we love pictures.
