They set an auction time of Sept. 18th at 9:30am. The internet prebidding is already open. It will be interesting to see how high it goes.

Please fill us in with the results.  Is the auction prebidding on the website on the first page here?

I just took a closer look. It's a salvage not a "junk" title. This could get intresting...  :grinyes:
70 Chally R/T Convertible- Yes she's really got a HEMI, no she's not a Charger!

You have to pay membership dues to IAA in order to bid. I think it is $200 per year. They have locations all over the U.S. They auction thousands of cars every week. I believe that most of their auctions have live internet bidding. You can bid along with the live auction from the comfort of your home.

Lumpy you are "sorta" correct... you have to hold a dealers license of some type. Salavge/used/rebuilder ect. Also Michigan along with other states requires a state license even if you are licensed in another state. Example, I hold a Wis and an Ill license. I couldn't bid it the way its listed because I don't have a Mich license. There's a little more to it than this but you get the idea.

You are right. Looks like they are limiting the auction to dealers only. In general, you don't need a DL to belong to IAA, but still an out of state dealer should be able to bid on this car. The only state that I have had problems with is Ohio. I have an AZ DL and can buy in most states.

I had the privelidge of watching this sell yesterday. The reason the general public could not bid is because it was in the salvage portion of the sale. You have to be a licensed salvage vehicle dealer and a licensed salvage vehicle agent to buy salvage from the pool. The car sold for around $17,200. That was the final bid, of course you have to add in the auction fees.

I had no idea the car was worth that kind of money and was seriously very suprised to see it sell that high. My curiousity landed me here via google search trying to figure out where the value is in that twisted metal. I see some of you were right on target with your pre auction sale price figure. I figured you guys should know what the result was.

He got what he paid for.......... VIN, cowl, rad support, rebody for sure. Thanks for posting the final price, as I missed the auction. The new owner is likely to remove the VIN #'s and make a clone car out of an old Sattelite or Road Runner. He will have the numbers to prove that it is a V Code Superbird, but it won't really be. The parts are so damaged that very little could be salvaged. It would still be alot of work. I guess if I had $17k to spend on that car, I could probably find $200k lying around to buy a nice one, whatever.

Agreed, this is a rebody in the making. And thanks to towmanroy for making the effort of signing up and posting. I was curious and glad I now know. Thanks

I bet someone is planning on a rebody.  :nono:

This is how the insurance system works (it was an insurance auction)

The car was totaled, the VIN is recorded as such in the file for the car with the photos for the insurance claim.

There is nothing there worth saving, other than it would make a cool display piece "as is".

If someone in the future tries to register the car for the road, or insure it, they will be denied. They will also have some explaining to do.  :naughty:

They could get jail time & have the car confiscated as well.
