Like I have stated before that car can be restored. Will it be easy no of course not, but it can be done with a lot and I mean a lot of time and money. I saw a 72 hemi cuda that had been in a horrible accident and had been sitting in a field rotting for years that was barely reccognizable as a car that was restored to showroom and the entire restoration was documented to prove it was not rebodied. The same can be done here even though it was in a horrific fire it can be saved, and as such there is no reason that it cannot be titled and returned to the road. I wish I had the money to have purchased the car so that I could restore it and prove to all the ney sayers on here that it can be done.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. I've restored many cars including 2 in progress and never met a fire car I liked. The heat does some funky stuff with the metal. I'll bet anything that looks useable in photos isn't in person. I could be wrong but maybe someone that saw it will chime in. And even if the rails looked good would you really stick all new panels, roof, floors ect on rails that saw that kind of heat. And after needing all the metal replaced is it technically the same car ?


As for the Hemi Cuda did you mean 70/71 or a 72 Clone ? I've heard people say a 72 hemi was built but I thought those were all shot down. Thoughts ?

No this was a numbers matching 71 hemi cuda, original blue car. How the engine survived I don't know but I was beyond impressed when I saw what the car looked like before and after restoration. I have dealt with fire cars in the past and while they are no fun due to like you said heat does some funky stuff with metal, they can be fixed.

This is why I keep saying that there's no definition of rebodying. How much metal can be replaced? How much structural support vs. cosmetic metal?

It varies from state to state on teh requirements.

If someone spends that kind of money, they probably have already figured out how to do it. Remove the VIN and corresponding body parts, cowl, radiator support and transfer those to the donor car, then sell the car to somone in a state where the title will be washed. Then you have a '70 Plymouth with all the right VIN numbers that you can restore. It ain't right ,but it ain't rocket science.

Moving VIN numbers from once car to another is a felony.

So is "title washing".
