SE backlight stainless surround trim
« on: August 02, 2008 - 04:30:36 PM »
I am in the process of buying an SE plug and backlight off of Moparts and was wondering if anyone has the stainless window surround they might be willing to sell me. Starting to collect parts for my 70 project and was thinking of making an R/T SE clone.

Man, I do believe I have an extra set. one of those things where i keep an extra set of everything. For you and any other veteran members, Id probably sell a set. But, if you're not in a hurry Id like to see if anyone else winds up with some extra pieces.

Let us know how the deal goes, GULP, I have an extra plug, glass, and interior trim peice. I just need to think of what Id want for it....  :bigshades:

Wow, I totally spaced out the interior metal trim  :screwy:  Thanks for the offer Wally, I totally understand about wanting to see if anyone else has spare parts. I keep an extra for lots of things that are hard to come by myself. Never know God forbid you should need a grille or other things. Thanks again and now I just gotta get my popcorn ready too lol

:swaying: You're right about having extra. The interior trim is a plastic piece that gets covered with Fabric. The one i have is complete, but cracked. you could reinforce it and never know once its covered. To me, they are a pretty hard piece to find unless you get it all together. Id definitely part with it since Its not a likely piece to need extra of....

Also, i wouldnt pay a fortune for the back plug. I see complete sets without the interior piece at Carlisle for $100....

just my  :2cents:

it gets expensive when you have to buy it all seperate...  :money:

The plug and backlight are 100. Shipping is a killer though so when all is said and done its 185 without the stainless trim and interior piece. I thought they were hard to come by, is that a bad price?  :dunno:

Well, like i said, i have seen them @ $100 with stainless, minus the filler piece for the interior. Do you plan on going to the Nats next weekend? Id wait until then if you're gonna go, to take a look around first. Like i said, its buying it all seperate that is the killer.....

Id say if you really need it, if its in good shape, get it.... But if you're willing to shop around, it could be to your benefit. I can hook you up with my interior piece, and if you get down the road and need the stainless, i can prob. help you out there too.... I would really just love to give you the whole extra set of all i have, to help a friend.... I just cant decide what to do...  :dunno: Its a tough decision, chances are Id never need the extra stuff, I hord certain things and then dump the rest.....

Maybe someone else can chime in..... Id hate for you to make a decision based souly on me....  :faint:

Lets see what anyone else has to say, another SE guy maybe as far as cost is concerned....  :feedback:

I have never been able to do the Nats or any big show for that matter. The closest show to me is Mopars at the strip in Vegas but that is still many hundreds of miles away. I would love to be able to shop at the Nats but I live in southeastern New Mexico and that is a LONG way off if you know what I mean. Dont feel the need to seed anything and I also agree to wait and see what the other SE guys have to say. Kinda sad when you know that most likely an SE had to die to give the plug and window for another car.  :sadwavey:

I didnt know you were over there... well, in the case of not being able to make it to a large show, it may be a good bet. Its certainly not a bad price, make sure its not all broke up or anything....

I agree about the sadness of a car dying to put up a piece like this  :sadwavey: But, if you think about it, with all of the parts we all have gotten or sold.... Its a high proabability that its all from a parted out car, or else there wouldnt be alot of extra "used" parts... up until lately when everything is being repro'd..... it sucks to think about all the cars lost.

side note: when i bought my car 7 or 8 years ago for $2500, I got the whole backend of a 70 with bumble bee stripe with it, I used the inner wheel wells and trunk extensions, and sold the outer 1/4's to a guy from Canada (wonder if hes a member here, they were yellow) and sold the frame rails. anyway, it had been a rust free car practically, and they sawed through the gutter chrome and all..... just sad to see how negligent we were with cars up into the 80's (thats when the car had been cut up)  :walkaway:
