Are the blocks with the HP stamp built any differently?  Mine is a '68 HP block and I've wondered if there is anything beyond the stamp that is special about it.  Thanks!

Mine is a 69 Block with the HP stamp. I think all that means is it's just a run of the mill 440... which isn't too bad either, if you know what I mean.   :burnout:

An HP engine was the higher horsepower unit. 375 over 350. More compression, different cam, dual point distributor etc. It is the better engine but nowadays it does not mean anything since all the stuff that makes it a better engine gets changed with a rebuild. I know a lot of people think the HP2 is something special above and beyond the HP but it is just an engine built on the 3 O'clock shift.

Ya I've had that thought!! BUT it was never "hot" to begin with, although gotten a bit on the unscupulous side of the fence I would say. The vehicle was never claimed by owner. Just don't wanna PO the wrong people... thats why I'm not naming names.

First an apoplogy to the members of this site. I gave an account of this story last nite which I have since deleted. Although factual, it did not say much for people I know nor myself and did not emphasize the point I was trying to make to begin with. Sorry if anyone was offended or ? That being said.......

The HP block came into the city tow lot in the back of a jeep. Vehicles are towed in for varying reasons -Abondoned-Accident-Driver arrest at a trafic stop-ect. The block was very clean and still has part of an engine stand on it. Ok vehicles at the lot go out in 3 ways - claimed by owner-bid on by dealers (because nobody claimed them-go to the shredder (either because of no bids or they were way to rough to begin with).  Keep in mind you do have the option of removing personal property from "your" vehicle with proper ID and proof of ownership.

Anyone someone who works there saw it and knew that this jeep was destined for the shredder. No one had made any claims on it. They are in the middle of a MOPAR project themselves and after having someone else get possesion for them decided to go HEMI!

And thats how I got the chance to get it. My point being - who would just leave a date coded 440 HP block that had obviously been ready to go for something in the back of this jeep?? The mount from the engine stand is still on it! No proof of ownership?? Jail?? Who knows, but I'll pick it up tonite.

Thats my story and I'm stickin' to it!
