This tag is mounted on my fender tag screw.  It is not the production line tear off tag as it is stamped out on all sides.
The tag reads    2C     .   I havn't seen this anywhere so I am totally in the dark on this.
Any help is appreciated.  It will definitely go back on the car after the restofication.

Oh, just so you know, the fender tag is not currently on the car and the screw that holds this tag is the furthest back screw that holds the fender tag on.

Is there a list of what the letters and numbers mean?

Nope. Each inspector had their own mark or number, it has no other meaning.

So, does that mean there are like a dozen inspectors at each plant?  Through the years I am sure there are more than that but shouldn't that be on record somewhere.  Not that it matters that Bob Dobalina inspected my car but I would just be interested.  Very curious about that.
How come the majority of cars do not have these stamps.  This is my 5th barracuda and none of the previous cars had them.  Some kind of rhime or reason???

Each plant would have had a list of inspectors names and their stamps.

That information seams to have been lost to time, but I would love to find a list like that.

With plants like Hamtramck producing over 3000 cars a day, we can only assume that they had a bunch of inspectors.

Inspection tags seem to be more common on cars built after mid-year in 1970. I have seen some original untouched cars that do not have any.

Most of the tags are small and easily lost too. Some are aluminum, and aluminum and steel in contact with each other causes oxidation. The aluminum usually loses that battle, so some inspection tags are just lost forever...........

OK, thanks for that info.
So, it is a possibility that somewhere out there are some lists that show inspectors and their stamps.
Probably factory records that would have been thrown away after several years?

Possible? Yes.

Probably tossed out? Also yes. Once the factory warranty expired on these cars no one gave a rats hiney who the original inspector was.  ;)

I would have never guessed some insignifigant tag that I have routinely removed and tossed in the trash over the years would ever be the fodder for a website thread. They are ugly and useless after after 40 years. Whoever installed it is probably either 70 YO or dead. There are surely more important things to worry about restoring an old Mopar. Namely everything else besides that. Maybe, possibly AFTER the body is concours straight and has flawless paint or the correct color, the interior is imacculately restored with the correct fabric and the numbers matching drivetrain is installed and running flawlessly and ever nut, bolt, piece of chrome and hose has been replaced with rare NOS stuff some small miniscule detail like that would be of some value in a car show, but otherwise it is totally worthless. It won't add any value to a car or make it run better and it doesn't even have any value as scrap metal.  ???

Added value,  No probably not.  Not really worried about extra value.  I just think it is really unique to have little things like that.  Especially on a car that is this old. I wasn't there in the beginning so every  little thing is intersting to me.  I hate when a car doesn't have the original tags it came with.  The tags add just a little bit of nostalgia to the car.  Just another step that the car had taken before I ever touched it.
