Norwegian Challenger
« on: April 01, 2004 - 09:51:52 AM »
Took the Challenger home recently after the winter so I thought I'd mention it here. :)

It's an ordinary auto, PS, no PB - drums all around. Originally a 318 but now has a built 340 from a '71 Duster. Newly rebuilt 650 Holley, new MSD, "strong" cam (unknown specs), 3 angle grind valve job, heads have harden seats, new pulleys, new valve covers, braided fuel lines, new Glass Pakcs exh., 727 Slap Stick, 8 3/4 rear, 3:23 gears... (More or less copying what the seller wrote :) )

It came with Ralleys with center caps and trim rings, but the tires (2x235 & 2x245/60-14) were rotten. Bought some nice used chrome rims with almost unused tires (4x235/60-14) cheap...

It's a California car and was restored in the US before it was exported to Norway - where I bought it.

It doesn't need any MAJOR work I think. There are just some small stuff that needs to be taken care of.
- Small dent w/rust on front left side panel. + Fix up some minor scratches. Paint otherwise ok.
- New rear-view mirror, or fix it up.
- Crack in the plastic below the grille. New or fix it up.
- Trim clips mostly missing...
- Wipers not returning when turned off.
- Put on the RT front spoilers and side scoops.
- Want side-stripes and hood decal.
- Plus some other stuff I cannot remember now...

I must also get someone to have a look at the engine. It's not running right - doesn't deliver as much as it should when I accelerate. It keeps dying on me while driving... I'll write more about this later.

More info going up on http://errors.no/soda/auto/ when I have some time, with some pics of the car as it looks today. It's great outside today, so I might get some new ones of it. I've included an old picture as it was before I bought it.

I'd love to get some feedback on this.

I hope so. I think I have to get the ting run smoothly first, though.

I haven't seen any Challengers around here, but a member of my club has a 'Cuda.  8) I know there are a few Challengers and Cudas elsewhere in Norway.

Yup, that is and always be my main goal to keep my car running strong. No engine, no go end-of-story.  ;D

You should look around for some more Mopars espeacially E-Bodies. Call people, ask around see how many there are......I myself can't talk as I haven't see one in person before down here apart from mine. But I did my research and called the right people and now know there is between 5-10 1970 Challenger R/T's down here and I know for a fact  1 or 2 are clones.  ;D

Hope to see you around here more mate this site has really taken off over the last 6 months or so, and will continue to rise.

Cheers,
Carl  8)

After searching for about 5 months non-stop (every day) on ALL the American sites, google, eBaY etc I was that keen to import one from the states.
Checked a kiwi site that I probably had only visited once before and wha-la!!  :D Ad red:

1970 Dodge Challenger R/T
440 Magnum
TF-727
#'S Car

Called him up and he was only 30 minutes away!!!!  :D
7 other people called but I got first dibs as I probably called first and the others were in Auckland.........11 hours drive away Bwhaahahahahaha (deep dark voice)  ;D
Went around, looked it over, fell in love, he said the lowest I'd go is $24,000 (US $10-12,000) my reply, done!  ;)
The car had been stored for 20 plus years!! Have owner papers and even talked to the Canadian who brought it to New Zealand, he still knew the options! LOL!!  ;D

Needed a bit of work and until it was completey stripped found out it needed more than we thought so after going in for a simple engine tune 9-10 months later I'm a few months away from a 100% restored 1970 Challenger R/T!!  :D Yehaaaaaaaaa  ;D

Sorry for going off topic on your thread soda.  :-[

Cheers,
Carl

That picture is about 6 months old so that's already taken care of. Four almost brand new tires and chrome rims are on that baby now...  ;)  ;D

Soda, Soda, can you hear me?

You haven't posted her in a long time. Are you still into Mopars? I run into your thread by a coincidence, but I can't find any pics of your ride. I'd love to see it in here, or live one day!
