TransBrake ???
« on: August 05, 2008 - 08:02:45 PM »
I've been thinking of installing a transbrake in my cuda, But I was wondering if anyone here has any success in converting a reverse manual valvebody to one with a transbrake?before I go and shell out 5-600 bucks on a new valvebody.  :dunno:

I had a trans brake in the race car.  I would never try to convert one myself.  If that valve opens while in any forward gear, your reverse come in and flips your car over.

When I ran my brake, I bought a special converter with a hardened sprag in it just for that purpose. the converter was $1000.  It also had an anti-ballon housing on it to handle the extra pressure. I also had to grind the front of the pump for extra clearance. Turbo action shows where to grind it in their directions. Basically it is right on the big channel when you are looking at the pump in the 727.

If you pay for the right stuff in the beginning, you won't have to buy it twice.

I have the converter to handle the transbrake and anything I can throw at it.... ok almost anything.  But its been about 13-14 years ago since I put everything together, and now that my brother and I are doing the resto on my Cuda I figured. "Hmmmm maybe I'll try something different."
I also understand if the valve "fails/opens" lifes gonna get real interesting really quick. So its not that fact that I didnt buy the right parts back when I first built the car, I feel that I need a change... And if I can learn something along the way... Great even better.

Just to give you a heads up,I don't know how your car is set up, but if it is not set up with a drag race suspension,(50/50 weight distribution, traction aid device etc.) you will just "shock" the tires harder and get more tire spin off the line with a transbrake.

If you look up my friend Joe, from TranZact of Indy, He might sell you just the solenoid valve, if you want to make one yourself. He made his transbrakes and sold me mine. All the valve does is direct pressure to the reverse servo, then dump it when released.

His number is 317 846-4933.

Awsome I'll have to drop em a line.  As for the suspension set up its a set of super stocks with a pinion snubber and drag shocks. But like I had said I built this thing to be a light to light street brawler way back when. :icon16:  As for a newer suspension set up... I'm kinda working on that, just kinda planning out my project.... sort of.
You know I think back when I had bought my Cuda I must of asked all the local mopar heads a million questions... lol Being 16 at the time they all asked me "What do want out of the car?" My common response wasnt drivablity like it should of been... It was to stomp every cheby and phord in a 4 town radius since I went to a vocational school I had to deal with everyone and they're cousin's uncle's Cramaro or Phord Muskrat and from the advice and parts list they gave me .... lol it worked,BUT a having a 9" 4600rpm CPI Bracket Master converter was kinda almost pointless esp when the brakes didnt like holding anything over 3600-3700rpm. Hence the reason I'm asking now about the transbrake.
Thankx for the info and leads I really appreciate it.
