I would also spend a little extra cash and run a regulator.  :2cents:

I don't like the Holley pumps because they are NOISY! I've never used a Carter, but in bench testing this one it seems to be a lot quieter than the Holleys. If you're using any pump that puts out more than 7-8 psi you'll probably need a regulator.

The Mopar installation instructions says

My confusion is that you say to cut the ring gear off the flexplate and Mopar wants to remove the ring gear from the converter ?

I also have the starter off a Hemi truck and wonder if its going to bolt up to the 727 and block and will it engage the ring gear mounted on the flexplate or converter? What starter are you using?

The instructions also say that the engine was supplied with a production Flexplate but doesn't give the part#

Can you help me out??

Forget all that junk sorry… its old info and poorly written instructions.

For a smoother install  :working:
Order the mopar flex plate P5153753 made to bolt the 727 to the new hemi using the old style torque converter with no weights welded to the converter.

Use a starter out of a 92 dodge ½ ton with a 5.2 or something similar. I don’t know if your starter will work on the driver’s side. The new hemi’s are on the passenger side.

That's correct, those are old instructions that were incorrect. As for the starter, stop and think about it. If you are using a TF727 and the starter bolts to the TF 727 bellhousing then it stands to reason that the starter would work with the ring gear on the torque converter as originally designed. Also, the mini starters that are used on the 5.2 and 5.9 Magnum engines work just fine in this application. I believe if you use the TTI headers it's the only starter that will work with them.

Sorry I should have clarified  :misbehaving:
I do not know if the 5.7 starter you have will work on the driver’s side 727 mounting location.  :dunno:

My bad! I didn't catch the part where he said he had the starter off of the hemi truck!  :banghead:

I have no idea if the original hemi starter would work, and I didn't get the original starter with my hemi so I have no way to compare them. I didn't even know that the starters were on the right side on the new hemis! I did check the bellhousing on the tranny that came with my hemi just now, and it has a similar starter bulge on BOTH sides leading me to believe that different applications may have the starter on different sides!

OK here's what i found, the nose on a regular 727 starter is longer and goes further into the bell housing. The hemi starter is shorter which makes sense if its contacting the ring gear on the flex plate not the converter.

Mini starter it is then.

Well, I found out something today that I haven't seen come up in any discussions about puting these engines in older cars. There are 2 bulges on the block flange for the oil pan rail at the back on the left side with holes drilled and tapped in them. They only stick out about 1/2" but will keep the mini starter from bolting up and need to be ground down flush with the rest of the block flange. I got my engine set in yesterday and went to put the starter on today and found this! :banghead: Fortunately I had room (barely) to get in there with a sawzall and cut the bulges off or I would have been pulling the header on that side! :pullinghair:
