« on: August 06, 2008 - 08:24:05 PM »
started with a 74 roadrunner, then switched to the 1970 challenger. she started life as a small block car. going big block, airride front and back(4 link). never done this before but have always wanted to . have done a bike and a truck..so first old mopar. dad had a 67 baracuda 340 6pak growing up, but wasnt old enough to driver her..BUT..he later had a chry imperial with a 440 that i used to do burnouts for over 2 miles!...so yea i'm going with a 440 for the chally.
needs new floors, rear frame rail(someone started a spring relo and didnt finish), need to fab a firewall, get some fenders and bumpers, re-cover the seats and more.

my favorite 2 rear ends

the air ride system should be awesome.

2 mile burnout!!  That's sweet.   I bet you had to buy several pair of tires.

Looks to be a fun project. I plan to go a similar path with a 73 Cuda so I can't wait to see the pics.  What are your plans for wheels and tires?

tHANKS for the welcome folks, nice feeling. hope i dont let you down on the build progress reports..getting harder to find the time. put up some new pics to satisfy some picture hounds, i hope. dont know what i am doing for wheel/tires yet. need to get the 4 link and the car and a lift all in the same place and then do some figurin. will probably at least mini-tub..but sotck rear seat will need to fit. also going fuel cell cut flush mount into trunk pan, dual rear braillie race weight batteries, shaved dana-60 rear end, built dbl over drive auto tranny. shaving side lights, door handles, gas cap and roof gutters. frame connectors, engine compartment cross brace(XV motorsports) . as soon as i win lotto, i'll finish her....hahahaa. john

I was just wondering, on that front air ride, do you have to have any special bracing or are you just placing it in the position of the shock?

:iagree: It would at least need a brace across the car similar to an XV one. Especially if you are raising and lowering it.

the kit(air ride technologies) doesnt call for any additional bracing. you just need to cut out the bump stop, widen an exsisting semi-circle notch in the top of the frame rail. i do plan on a cross member like XV's, but thats more for lateral support. i am anxious to see if this bag can lift the 440-6 pak. i might have to hit them up for a bigger bag, but we shall see.

doing the 4 bar next!! its going to a buddies shop this week. i need to deal with past owners hack job attempt and a leaf spring relo-..either have to finish it or put in a new frame rail. anyone done this?

I was thinking the same thing.  Main reason is because in the stock suspension, the torsion bars "hold" a lot of the weight of the car.  Removing them causes that weight to be transferred to the shock tower which is nothing but some plain old sheet metal.  There are a lot of guys here more well versed at the technical stuff than I am, hopefully they'll drop in.
