70 Challenger RT 440 6 Pack-- I need help on value.
« on: August 07, 2008 - 11:50:45 AM »
Ok, my Father In Law wants me to help him sell his Challenger, and I really have no idea what it is worth or how to go about helping him. He thinks it is worth 28-30k. It very well maybe, but I really don't know.

Here is what I know about it.

1970 Challenger RT 440 6 Pack

It is a real RT, but was a 383 originally. It has been restored, and is very nice. Plum Crazy Purple, but was burnt orange originally.

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Randy

How old is the restoration?  Do you know the date code from the engine block?  Your father's price estimate could actually be on the low end if the restoration was real ggod and has held up well.  The fact that it is an original RT definitely helps?  Is the fender tag still on it?  As you can see there are a lot of details that can add or detract from the value, but a good solid original 70 RT could easily hit the $40K+ range if all the details are there.

It was finished about 10 years ago, and looks great to me, but I am no expert.

I am going to find out some more of those details you asked about, and post them.

Thanks for your help.

If anyone else has any ideas, please let me know.

Also, where is the best place to try and sell this?

Thanks
Randy

i think that his estimate is probably close. looks like a nice car, but it has some downsides (small guages under the dash, seats look like they were recovered with velvet like material (may just be my eyes), and to some the changing of the color and engine.) I personnaly like the Burnt orange (go figure) but a lot of folks do like the plum crazy. only other thing i see that may hurt is being an auto. but who knows. i havent seen prices in a while but always hear about the market being down right now. beautiful car though. if i was in the market i would definately be there looking

It doesn't look bad at all from here. I think the 28-30K range is a good starting point. It could well be worth more though.

The fender tags can be hard to read at time if rusty or if they have a lot of paint on them.

That said, can you double check it please? Or add a photo of it maybe?

There are a few things that do not add up as it is typed.  :dunno:

I put paper over it and rubbed with a pencil to get an impression of it, but the impression is kind of hard to read.

What part does not make sense? I will have to call my FIL tomorrow and ask him to clarify it.

I would say your father in law is right in range.  I recently sold a 440 six pack clone that started life as a 318 and moved it in similar territory.  It appears your car may be finished a bit nicer, but I would have to see more pictures to know for sure.

Mine was a 4 speed, but not a true RT.
