Finally taking my tach in -UPDATED-
« on: August 07, 2008 - 11:39:11 PM »
I found a place in town to get my tach recalibrated. Since my trip meter never lined up propery thought I'd bring the speedo in too. Once I pulled the speedo out, I found a little copper part laying in the bottom of the pot metal housing. Also a little purpleish felt looking piece. The speedo worked fine, just the alignment of the trip meter was off. Any one got any ideas??

BTW, does anyone have one of those little screws for the trip meter knob they'd like to sell??

I wonder if someone didn't try to spin back the OD at one time. Sometimes the Od brakes if this is tried.

Been a qwick day for BIGS! Took my speedo & tach over to Roger at the Speedo shop in town here. www.speedometersolutions.com He adjusted my trip odo in about 30 seconds while I was standing there. He says that little copper piece with the felt was the way ma was marking odom's when they turned over. He says get rid if it - IT SCRATCHES the NUMBERS (so if you got scratched numbers now you know why) . Anyway I leave him my tach, make a few stops (short ones) and am pulling back up to the shop. He calls me and says TACH is DONE!!!! WOW!!! I picked it up already. I should have it back together later next week.   :2thumbs:  :2thumbs:  :2thumbs:

I'll keep you posted on function when I get them back in.

Still need that little screw tho......  :eek7:

BIGS,

That little screw is necessary for the clock. You can get away without it on the trip odometer though. You don't have to twist that knob, just push it in.

I can't wait to see how much more accurate this tach will be now!!    :jumping:

I had no idea there was a place like that in town.  Looks like my tach will need to get a once over as well.  Do you mind sharing ballpark cost?

Ya Mike I know.... I'm just retarded on that kinda stuff, seeing it's all apart anyway.  :screwy: :screwy:

My cost was .................. $60!!!   :faint: ....... :clapping:  :woo: But my tach was working just reading to high. Roger said it just needed a little adjustment!

No problem there, most of my posts go on and on and on and on........   But I always figure if it helps out somebody else here it can't hurt!  :grinno:

So later in the day I decide WTH it's already apart might as well get ahold of rt-eng and get my clock done! Heck I've been to Springdale Ar... I coulda dropped it there and saved shipping costs!  :smokin: Anyway called him and left a message - waiting for the call-back.

So now I'm all hyped up so last night I broke out the Novus and a brew (or 2) And polished me plastic face up!!

No need to ship your clock to RT-ENG, just order their quartz kit and put it in yourself.  I'm about as mechanically inclined as a frog and I was able to do it in about 15 minutes.  The toughest part was getting the rivets back in, but I did not have good tools to do it, so I ended up using a vise, hammer, and nail punch.  The thing works like a top and worth every penny.

Greg at RT-Eng sells those barrel screws separately for $7.00 each. I can't imagine shipping being more than an envelope and the price of a stamp.

:working: Got my dash back together last nite and went to a show about 20 miles from home. Tach had to be dead nuts give or take a few percent. My trip odometer read perfectly the whole way out too!! Roger did a great job IMO. Qwick too, granted my stuff functioned going in.  Now if Greg from RT-ENG would return my call on getting the clock redone! As for Speedometer Solutions..................
