That is a stand out car with cool old school paint.

Would be interesting to find out if it does have a fender tag and has the A78 code for the formal roof package for 71 as their is no such thing as an SE Challenger for 71..............

The taillights are  1970 on the car. It is an A78 1971 or it has had the SE window added. It even has the rare 71 only hood molding. The seats look like 71 units with a poor redo using 70 upholstry. The foam must be gone under the new covers.

for the hood molding you must be talking about the small one and not the wide one, I still think it was a 70 SE and someone added a 71 dash that still had the VIN on it, also has 70 SE only door panels with SE inserts and carpeting at the bottom, plus the seats look later than 71 maybe 73 or 74 with 70 covers. I guess the only true way to know would be to see the inside of the trunk.

I kind of like.  I had a neighbor in the early 80's that used to paint cars like that.

That might be a rebody but it could just be a car that was wrecked early and put back together with whatever was available.

I asked him if the cowl, rad support and door numbers matched. I guess we will see if he posts the question or not..

I guess the only true way to know would be to see the inside of the trunk.
The 71 used a different molding for the hood. It had a wide lip on the bottom that screwed to the bottom of the hood. This is the small standard molding. Carpet on the bottom of the door panels was not limited to an S/E. You could get it without having a S/E. The S/E inserts will bolt on to any panel. The inner fenders on the car are 71. The seat belts are also 71. The fenders are always without the notch on 70. Some 71's also came without the notch. It is a 71 with some 70 S/E parts. The seats may have been some wild crush velvet or some other upholstry that was common with these types of customs. Someone may have changed it back to stock. The steering wheel is 72 up. These were favored back in the day over the standard 70-71 wheel. It could have been changed when the seats were done. Most of the time I remember these cars having a diamond shaped crush velvet interior with a chrome chain steering wheel.

I just put the pics up on a 60 inch screen. The seats are 72 up seats with 1970 upholstry. This explains why the foam doesn't match up. The car may have had custom seats in it when it was shown back in the 70 & 80's.
