If it would have had a shifter on the column, then the hole would have been bigger and more elongated to allow the shifter to pull towards the driver.  This one is pretty much a perfect circle and if you hold onto that collar part and twist, you can move the shifter in the console.  Pretty neat trick but scarey as hell since the car was running and I didn't know it did it.

Jackie, if Shelby does have to take the Daytona out to Carlisle next year, please tell her to park it FAR FAR away from Layson's.  That is if they are even still in business then.    :smilielol:

Beautiful car you have there, congrats!
I noticed that same hole on my 70 R/T the other day, maybe it's an access hole to take part of the column apart? My cars a floor shift auto if that makes any difference.

My column shifter had the prdnd121  on top of column, not below on slapstick like this one.

Where do you see something below the column?  This would not have the PRND21 on the column as it is a console shifted car.

White and red are one of my favorite color combo and let alone how clean the car is.  Cool rides

I can tell you 100% for sure that hole is not for the column shifter . The 2 look nothing a like .There is a oval hole and it is raised about a half inch with a pin for the shifter .

Thanks for all of the compliments.  For those of you who know me or have seen our cars, cleanliness is next to godliness in my book.  Well.... at least for my antique cars.  Jackie has seen what my charger looks like first hand last year.  She can attest to my anal retentiveness of detail of correctness and cleanliness.  The chally has a long way to go as far as I am concerned as far as being factory appearing correct.  Right now, it is a work in progress.

I'm pretty sure the hole is were the key light is. It's part of the light group usually. There is a black metal cylinder that goes in there with a translucent blue window that the light comes out of. You open the door and that light shines to help you find the ignition for a certain amount of time.

It looks like that column has been repainted. So maybe it's been out and taken apart. But I do see the 70 only interlock rod linkage is still there column seen from the engine compartment picture. That usually gets tossed over the years.

My 71 has the lighted key deal. But I don't have a picture. If you look at some of the dealer stuff paperwork posted on the hamtramak historical site there are probably pictures and discriptions of the light package and key light deal.

On the 69 and down cars, there is a hole in the metal dash with a light on the other side to shine down on the key area.
