I am aware of the rad support being blacked out on the light colored cars as that is the same for the B bodys like my charger.  I was never aware that the E bodys were supposed to have the cowl area (where the black plastic screens are) blacked out.   Easily fixed though.

He didn't miss the radiator support. He has before and after photos and had many a fight about the blackout on the front valance. Look at moparts next level photos. He never posts here cause he said there a bunch of hacks when it comes to authenticty i think? something like that.

The before photos sure were a help. And he says, every car was slightly different, depending on the assy. line worker.

And he also likes the way jackasses could look at his car  and in 5 minutes know more than him after 2 years research. He has $230,000 into this car and laughed at the $$hitbums that nit picked his car.

OK lets get 100% specific. They were SUPPOSED to have rad support blackout. If some dumbass on the line was stoned and missed his car then yes, his car is correct. If he thinks the guys here are hacks when it comes to authenticity then he is an idiot, sounds like he is better off over at mofarts with that snooty crowd then.

Dave at ECS is one of the most respectable people I know and if it is not 100% totally correct he will no sell it.  Just like Mike Ross from B/E&A body.

JS29U, do you always speak for 'him'? Between your posts in this thread and in the Nationals thread, I have come to the conclusion you are an incredibly rude idiot. Your posts are poorly written.....the only hack here is you and your use of the English language. I tried to hold my breath on your posts, but you are one arrogant SOB.

No i don"t speak for him. Iv'e never met him.I was just repeating what he said on his post. And i don't believe he called anyone here hacks, i think someone else said it. It was foolish to repeat heresay.

I truly believe his restoration is the worlds best example of a u challenger and has brought the level of restoration  to new levels. The fact that there are so few parts out there, it may be impossible to repeat. There is a big difference at times between nos and assy. line parts.

ok lets get back on topic...

very nicely done...

would love to see more pics to use as a reference.....

with any car you are restoring from Detriot there are exceptions to every rule so you should use the cars history to help you restore it back to orig...

line workers were SUPPOSED to do things but with a line not stopping do you think they cared if they missed a minor step or swapped bolts etc?

The original blackout instruction as far as I know was;

On all colours, except TX9, EB7 and EF8, the flange below the door sill ("down-standing flange") was painted Organasol Black on the outward face of the flange. No overspray was permitted on the bottom side of the sill section.

The front side of the radiator closure panel, below the top support (upper radiator "U" channel) and underneath the hood latch plate was painted Organasol Black except for TX9, EB7 and EF8. Overspray was permitted half way into the inside headlamp area.

So basically it is only the bits you can see through the 1970 grille (with the hood closed) that got painted black. The upper part of the radiator support panel (where the wires run across) did not get blacked out.

There is also examples of other colours not getting blackout paint but usually these were other fairly dark colours.

Thanks for posting those Ron, I agree it was a stunner in person - although your R/T SE isn't exactly chopped liver :grinno:

I haven't located how the judging went. Does anyone have that info?

Stunning job !

As for this or that being "correct", I remember hearing pretty much the same thing about my own car (back in the day), where somebody would make some wisecrack to demonstrate his "superior" knowledge over mine.  I didn't appreciate it then, don't now, and I've learned to temper my remarks to others because I'm not nearly the expert I thought I was.

While there was a tremendous degree of standardization (borne out in sales literature and the repair manual), there are clear examples of stuff the factory did (and shouldn't have) and things they didn't do (but should have).

In my experience (which is extremely dated when it comes to these cars), never say "never".
