Me either.

Tony said yesterday on the phone that color combos like this were ususally distined for Canada.
I haven't seen the vin on it so thats speculation for now.

I have 14 blue stripe Challengers in my database. (Dave's car is one of them.) NONE of them were built for Canada. In case anyone wants a color breakdown: EB3 - 4,  EB5 - 4, EB7 - 4, EW1 - 2.

In regards to the black out area. The engineering drawings clearly describe how these area should be done. And it is for all colors except EB7, FC7 and TX9. That can't be questioned. It's how it was supposed to be done.

Was it done that way. Simply put ... no.

Do you really think a line worker is going to think, oh this is a purple car, I'm not supposed to paint black out on this one. No, they'll just do them all the same. I've even seen it on black cars. That's one I'd think they'd have bypassed and maybe sometimes they did, but not always.

My Panther Pink car never had the cowl area black out paint. It should have, but it didn't. Should Dave's car have the radiator support black out? Yep. But if he's got pics showing it missing, then if his goal was to restore it back to the way it was then he should not have painted it.

Well, being a certified old fart, I did work at Dodge Main back in 76 painting Volare and Aspen radiator core supports.  I don’t believe it was much different from the Cuda / Challenger era.  It’s pretty much like what most people are saying, the application varied from person to person.  Myself, I pretty much painted every core support black, unless it was black.  Did the dark green, dark browns and of course any medium to light color.  I usually filled in for guys that called in sick.  There was no engineering spec, just some guy painting the body took a smoke break and said "kid do it like this".  Darn, that reply reminds me of how old I am and makes want to take a nap now.  See ya, Snowdoggie.

I would say it is more of a satin black.

Like TommySS posted, " ...never say "never" ". When dealing with cars from this era one thing is certain. There is no certainty :grinno: My FC7 R/T SE had evidence of blackout on the cowl as well as the 'behind the grille area' - though not much - so it will be reapplied.

I've been around my car since new so I know the history - behind the grille was definitely blacked out but the cowl was not.

Glad you guys brought the cowl painting up.  I can't remember painting it either on the Aspens and Volare.

Lets give some credit to my friend Steve Bean for painting this car. I've been to his shop and watched the car go through some of it's rebuild stages. You should have seen all of the work that went into that hood.
He is a very talented guy.

Dave, Ron Wright here. I was hoping you wouldn't see that ridiculous comment. I just don't get the negativity of the haters. ???

Dave,
I 'm not  trying to sound like a "hater".  I stared at your car at the Nationals for a long time and  loved it.  I just quickly read through this thread and didn't see Steve's name mentioned. I'm sorry that I made that comment about the money. I don't know you, and didn't know of all of the time you spent on the car and it's collection of NOS parts and your history of restoring award winning cars. I saw a dollar figure in a post above and assumed things that I shouldn't have. I am just a part time restorer and you are a Chip Foose type restorer, so to you I bow my head.

I will edit my post, sorry.

Rob

Hello Dave,

I am so glad you have jumped on board and taken the time to look around at our tight knit community here old mate. :2thumbs:  I am for one really looking forward to seeing some pictures of your Challenger when you see fit to share them with us all here. :jumping: :clapping:

When you get the chance, we have a newbie section for new members to introduce themselves and share pictures of the cars they have or have had.  Look forward to more postings and sharing in what you can provide in the way of knowledge. :woo:

Hi Rob,
Please do not worry about editing anything  or apologizing.  I certainly am not a "big wig" in this hobby, just a guy that is privileged to serve the industry and provide the  best products we can manufacture.  I am truly humbled by the response we have received on this Challenger project.  If you look at the past magazine articles and postings in the other forums, you will see that Steve Been has been mentioned many times for the expertise and FANTASTIC work he has provided on our last two projects.  It was certainly a lot of hard work but we were able to pool our efforts to complete the car(s).
I really hope we can get together sometime in the future.  Thanks for your response and sorry for any misunderstanding!
Take care Rob.

Sincerely,
Dave W.

Dave,
Thanks for kind comment.    Sometimes I type a comment or e-mail, then hit "send" and realize, sometimes right away, sometimes after public comments, that it was a mistake.  I stuck my foot in my mouth without knowing the time and effort that went into this car.  I probably only saw your car at Steve's 3 times during the build process, for a total of 20 minutes.  So I really know nothing about the time spent on restoring your car. It only takes one negative comment to hurt someone, so again I'm sorry and wish that I never made it.

I hope to meet you as well.
Your car is amazing with it's color combo.

Rob
