So, what is my 340 worth?
« on: August 11, 2008 - 02:35:44 AM »
I have a 340 block with a forged crank that has been sitting disassembled in a garage for several years. The casting numbers are 2780930-340-6 with a date of 5/6/70.  The block is already .040 over and has some scoring so it will need to be bored to at least .060.  I have not done any sonic testing.  The crank is already .010 under and will need to go to .020.

I am trying to raise a little money to put a storage building behind my house.  So, what do all of you think this is worth?

Thanks in advance.

I am not going to hold anyone to what they say, I am just trying to get an idea of the price to put on craigslist.

If it is just the short block. I would take it for 300 bucks. Do you have the heads too?  I try to build stuff and pass it along to members. Oil pan? or other covers? Bare short block?  What all come with it clinton?

Hey Alan,

I got the block around 8-10 years ago and thought about building it for my Challenger, but I went with a 360 since it was cheaper to build and had more displacement.  When I got it, it had an aftermarket single plane intake and some cheap 360 heads.  I doubt I still have the pistons, but I can check at my father's place one of these days.  The rods are currently in my father's 360, in his Dart.  I no longer have the intake, but I can include some old truck 360 heads and 360 rods with it for cores.

It is not a complete short block, so I would not expect $300 for it.  Let me know what you think.

You might rethink not getting 300 bucks, looks at this auction. '67 340, no info on bore or anything else, although it has the pistons (not likely usable) and rods. 2 days left and at $325. I'm guessing it will go higher...

If you pull up in my driveway with it, I will buy it. I would build it for a friend :2thumbs:

I have plans with the girlfriend this weekend, will you still be home next weekend?  If so, I can try to come by.  Just to let you know, I am not trying to just unload this block on you.  I have not had it sonic tested, so I am not 100% sure if it will work for you.  I just do not want you to think I am trying to take advantage of you.

Ouch, my last week home Clinton. Fri is my wedding anniversary. Taking the wife to Nashville and staying at the Embassy Sweet motel for the weekend. Then I'm off and gone to Texas. I may find a little bad weather there due to the hurricane

I understand, well just let me know the next time you are going to be home and I will try to make time to bring it over.  Have fun with the wife and be safe in Texas.
