Weird.  I didn't do a comp test but I did adjust the air bleeds to get vacuum from 7 to eight (maybe I have my idle set to low I don't have a tach yet). They are about 3/4 turn open each.  I switched spark plugs between 7 and 8 and now they all fire.  Beats me.  I took it out for a spin and it is still rough but seems much better.  Still not right though.  Hidden vacuum leak?  Can't really see around all the runners good.  Do they still make starter fluid? We used to use that.  Carb cleaner isn't flammable.  What vacuum level is good?

take an ohm meter and measure the resistance in the #7 wire. It may be bad. Also, verify the wires are on the cap correctly.

funny thing one time is when i had put on my ceramic coated headers the starter wire was arching on them....  :working:

Yes I agree with stroker. check the wires I had one bad once that did that. I cheated tho and took a spray bottle with water and misted it on the wires. After that I could see the problem. It worked for me. :jumping:

I checked the resistance for #7 and it's around 90 ohms.  They all seem to be firing now for some unknown reason but still not running as good as it should at cruise and the idle is still a little rough.  I did adjust the timing down a little too.  All my wires are new but I will check them all.  Seems to be running a bit rich now even though I have the air bleeds only 3/4 turn open on all 4.  Somethings there and I'll find it.  Need to go through the carb tuning guidance.

turn them out more... the idle mixture screws.... your confusing them with air bleeds...

If the mixture screw is more than 2 1/2 turns out turns then the Idle jet is too lean (too Small). When the mixture screw is less than 11/2 then the Idle jet (IFR) is too rich (too large). These assumptions are based on the fact that the Idle speed screw setting is not opened more than 11/2 turns.

I went through nightmare from  HE!l a little while ago with NIKKI. I had a post about as long as this one, maybe longer. Then I came across a friend of a friend that has rwad all 4 of the Holley and the Demon book on carbs (and understands them!) Check out your secondary's mine were slammed shut so no idle off them at all. Therefore I was chsing a ghost for weeks (cause I knew nothing about this). Unfortunately I had to remove the carb to check this, but now I'm within a hair of where I would like it to be. Believe me I understand your frustration and headaches!!!! Don't give up, we're all here with ya!  :2thumbs:

The four corner screws are the mixture screws right?  Turn them out to get leaner? The idle screw is on the side which adjusts the engine idle?  3/4 seems to be where it ran best and vacuum was best.  Is there another adjustment I'm missing besides the four corners?

If I read right you are running a holley 750 DP??/ me too! The secondary idle screw is on the rt side/but is VERY small and I could only acess it buy removig the carb, because the head od the screw in facing the intake!! There fore I was trying to adjust all this other $#it and mostly just pi$$ing on my own foot! I got so far off track I thought she would never run right again!! Granted this may not be your prob like irt was mine but if you checked all the other suggestions here it can't hurt. I only had 7-8 inches vaccum till I remedied this now I got 13-14!!! And maye my 4 corner are half way out!

There are other screws?  I only saw the 4 corner ones that are all the same size.  I didn't think the secondaries opened at all until you put your foot in it.  To dark now.  I don't remember any other adjustments on the Holley DVD.  I'll look.  Interesting.

All the DP's, wheather they have 4 corner idle screws or not, have idle circuits in the secondaries, and therefore must have the throttles open slightly.

OK. Watched the Holley DVD and now understand more about the various adjustments.  My car is running much too rich and the vacuum is way to low at idle.  The DVD states the secondary idle screw (located on the bottom) should rarely have to be adjusted.  I'll have to take the carb of and see if the secondary throttle plates are closed all the way or slightly open as they should be. This would seem rare if it was out of adjustment.  I looked at my wires and they are new and seem fine.  Nothing seems to be arcing anywhere.  I too had a car that would quit and then restart and it was due to a starter wire arcing.  The low vacuum is a definite indication of something wrong. The motor doesn't have that many miles on it.  Has to be fuel or spark.  The secondary idle is a definite hope.

I forget what that adjustment is supposed to be. 1/4 turn from just closed?  :dunno: Chryco should be able to tell you that.

The adjustment is very slight - BUT important!! If you go too far you will get a bog you wont get rid of!!  So you will know if you went to far, but as in my case they were(seconday) all the way closed! NFG!!!!! On and off twice got me really close - then I could get a good mix/vacc out of the carb!!!  :2thumbs:

turn them out more... the idle mixture screws.... your confusing them with air bleeds...

1st - Take the air cleaner off and look at the throttle blades "about" 1 1/2 turns on the idle speed screw... the blades should be barely turned.... fuel should NOT be dribbling down into the carb....

2nd - turn all your mixture screws in until they stop and then back them all out equally "square" start with 1 full turn "out" each "square"
backing thm out richens the carb out more...  :working:

3rd - Re-adjust the timing.........

4th - a half a turn either way is critical on the mixtures screws....  in leans the carb and out richens it up....

5th - change plugs again....

 :2thumbs:

air bleeds are for super fine tuning.... see example below.........  :2thumbs:
