Racing Challengers
« on: August 11, 2008 - 10:20:53 PM »
Well folks - we had a good time up here in Calgary this past weekend. A husband and wife couple each have had their Challengers for over 20-25 years. they have been married longer, these are their kids. They both race in Vintage Road Racing and this meet was held at Race City. One is a Sublime T/A the other a 73 done up in the gurney dark blue colour. The 73 is a 340 Auto pushing over 500Hp at the crank and pulls 147MPH down the back straight. Unfortunately the lady's car blew a new engine early in the weekend. CP and I counted at least 3 holes in the dry sump pan. No it is not the original TA block. But was it neat to see these awesome handling cars running the track and giving ohers a run for their money. I still cannot believe the power and accelleration from that 340 Auto but the tranny is modified somewhat. Also they really did things right like $400 a corner Koni shocks, tubular front sway bar, tubualr/adjustable UCAs, minilite mags, racing slicks, dry sumps etc etc etc. Hope the images are OK. The T/A is behind the real GT40. and CP even ran the 72 440 charger down the track - what a hoot. If the pics are no good go look in www.calgaryvintageracing.ca

they are awesome people & invited us out to watch & participate
I made a few laps in my Charger & gave a Porsche 911 Turbo a real run down the front straight !! I am sure he thought I was an easy kill but over 1/2 way down the 3/8 mile straight he still was not even with me !!
I know  :useless: but I couldn`t get any good pix while driving !!

Nope, but the ones they've got are important. Like a tubular splined sway bar, adjustable strut, Tubular upper arm, and koni shocks.

Once again reinforcing my belief that you don't need a lot of exotic hardware to get a great handling car.

There is a vintage race coming up this weekend in Chicago (Joliet Autobahn), perhaps they travel to do these races? At any rate I'll keep an eye out for them.

I get to show my Cuda at the upcoming race, as they are having a car show on Friday at the event. We are told we get to run a parade lap on the circuit (not at any decent speed however...). I would love to see how my car can run on a road course :roflsmiley:
