    New guy spends a few bucks..................

    I just got my 70 Challenger 15 days ago. I knew there would be some costs associated with getting her up to snuff, but I'm already feeling the pinch. The car was is pretty good condition when I got it, but it had sat for ten years, soooooo, here's where I am so far...
    Tires  --- $414
    Tune up, sending unit, gas tank clean/inspect brakes, there were dry brake lines, fuel pump $1,120
    Sales tax and plates -- $730
    Major front end work  --- $985
    Grand Total  --  $3,249.00

    I'm at the low end of the repair curve compared to some, but it still kind of hurts.......................

    Yeah, it's a lot of money bringing these old cars back from the (near) dead.  I budgeted $5000 for my build and I'm gonna burn through a lot more than that before I'm done (shhhh...don't tell my wife!  :smilielol:)  All these guys telling me how much fun it is to cruise their cars is keeping me motivated and believing it's going to be worth it in the end. :burnout:

     I budgeted $5000 for my build too but I'm at close to 8500.00 and still have another $7000.00 to go!  :crying:

    I would be ashamed to say what I paid for my car. After I got it, it was quickly apparent it had sat for years too. Multiple, multiple, multiple, problems in the fuel system. Basically the gas tank was the only thing not replaced. Replacing the push-rod in the block for my fuel pump was the final hurdle.   :pullinghair: The brake system...  :lol:  The rubber flexible hoses on my front brakes were petrified wood.   :eek7:  I could go on, but I don't want to depress you.   :grinno:  I wish you much better luck than I had. Thankfully you can get alot of good advice here.   :ylsuper:

    I'm lucky, my interior is real good. The only rust on my car is surface rust on the bottom. That said, a real nice paint job is still going to run around $5,000. I've got a 318 Auto with an 8 1/4 rear end. Someday, I'd like to go to a real strong small block, a sweet tranny and an 8 3/4 rear end. That's got to be another $8,000 to $9,000..................

    I'm looking at $5K to $6K for a 400-450 Horse Small block, I'd like to find a deal on a crate motor. It sounds like there's a ton of motors to choose from. I'm too broke to get one now, I'm just going to enjoy driving a sweet old Challenger.....................

    6.1 hemi EFI (recamed should be close to 500 at the crank) & all the toys  :burnout:

    Semi crate I got a factory replacement motor and had to get the stuff to make it work.

    Would have been nice if they had the crate when I started.

    Stay at it Glenster!  The only advice I can give you is take your time and do what you can and what you can afford.  These Mopars are the most expensive to restore & update but it will be worth it when it's all done.   :burnout:  Pictures always help, please post some of your project so we can all see what your up to!
