74 Barracuda VIN TAG - What should it look like?
« on: August 13, 2008 - 11:18:39 PM »
Can anyone send me a picture what a VIN tag for a 1974 Barracuda should look like?  Are they the same as an early model...say 1970?

This is from a '73 VIN tag, I would assume a '74 tag would be the same.

This may be a dumb question, but why do you need a picture?

I hope not, but it does seem a little odd.

okay...since everyone is starting to speculate.  I was able to get a vin number extracted from the core support from my car.  I DID NOT DO IT....my local sheriffs office auto theft task force did it and I had to let them inspect the car with a fine tooth comb for over 2 hours.  They called a special analyst and they traced it down.  So it's legit!  Furthermore,  name of the person on the title matches the person that I was told owned the car a long time ago...but that was just word of mouth and I couldn't find the person to try and get a title.  The car hasn't been registered since 1987 and the owner I believe to be dead since he was 75 back in 1987.
So anyway the next step is to have the TXDOT actually affix a VIN number with the original VIN number to my car.  But considering I want to Prostreet the car I may want to put a dash back in it.  So I want a Dash VIN plate. I can get one but I have to supply all the paperwork to support it...ie..sheriffs paperwork, bill of sale and title.   So there ya go....  No funny business going on here!

Who is issuing you a new dash vin tag?  Will it look the same as original?  Just Curious.

It will look same as original.  However, I am not sure I am even going to put a dash back in it yet.

I agree. It could be somewhat close, but if I recall most states do something like add their 2-letter designation to the VIN, so it would at least have 2 more characters.
