Anybody like Pontiacs?
« on: August 14, 2008 - 09:30:32 PM »
My buddy's '68 Cat convert.  A beautiful car, 400 sb.  Him and his dad go to local shows, his dad has a Model A.  He came over the other day and helped us out a bit on the farm, and I got a chance to snap a couple of pics when he left.

I think Bigs'll like this one.  If I remember right, he's got a big Pontiac convert.

I have a few pontiacs left.

Nice looking car  What engine came in that.  Possibly the 428 ?  That would be one of the three years worth that came with that engine.  67-69.
 Is that the original color?

I love them.  66 GTO is the most beautiful car GM ever made, and probably ever will make.

I learned to drive in my Dad's '75 Ventura

I spotted one of these peeking out of a garage near my house.

Greg,  that's a 70 Grand Prix.  Looks very nice, I love the black on those cars but without the vinyl top.  The vinyl top sure makes them look straight.  Without it, sure does make it look like a hot rod.  That's one of my favorite pontiacs.  Mine has a 428 but is gold with white interior.
Your dad's ventura should have had a big block in it.  That is just before they started putting oldsmobile engines in.  Cool car to have learned in !!

Josh, good eye on the '70.  I'm not sure about the neighbor car - I just spotted it a couple of days ago, recognized that John DeLorean front end.  I agree about the top.

My Dad's car had a BOP 350 in it.  I don't think they ever offered a big block in the X-body Venturas - just the '60s models, which are very rare.  The car probably didn't have 150 hp, but it was a relatively lightweight car and the engine was pretty torquey.  To a high school kid who didn't know any better (except for one ride in a very fast '68 Camaro), it seemed quick enough.  Especially given that my mom's car was a '71 Volkswagen bus.  Slow but fun in it's own way.

I love 'em, too!   I built a '69 LeMans two door a few years ago, put in a 400 4 bbl/TH400, a GTO hood and nose.

It could fry N50-15s on 15x10 Cragar S/Ss until I let off the loud pedal!!

Now if I could only find pictures of it....

All Pontiac motors from 1964- 1977 were big block motors.   Including, 326,350,389,400,421,428,455.  They are all big blocks and all have interchangable parts.  Some 1978's had big blocks but most in that year were victims of the emissions change over.  401 oldsmobiles and some other crappy chevy motors.
I have spent lots of time with Pontiacs, just love the way they drive!
