Looking for a '70 `Cuda that was on a magazine cover
« on: August 14, 2008 - 11:11:56 PM »
I am looking for a picture of a `Cuda I saw on a magazine cover back in 1976
I think it came out in Feb., March, or April '76 and I think it was Car Craft magazine..
It was a 'yellow' '70 with a custom hood scoop on it and it was the car that made me tell my
friend right then and there  "C'mon, let's go.. I am going to buy a `Cuda.."
that was in June and it took me until August 24th, 1976 to find the right one..
and this was the one I bought..
.

.
Of course, it didn't look quite like this when I bought it..

TIA

What is that on the rear quarter??   :clueless:  Sorry I can't help with the search for your mystery car.  Have any pics of the car you are looking for?   :dunno:

I had M50-14 Mickey Thompson tires on it (widest 14" tire you could buy back then)
so to make it street legal I had my body shop guy
make some fender 'flares' for it.. They are solid metal,, that and getting rid of the side marker lights,,
some other little body work repair and the paint job cost me (in 1981 dollars) over $3000.00..

and I need pics because I don't have any..

I am going to be getting an '09 Challenger and I want to put sidepipes on it also..
one problem is Doug Thorley no longer makes 'ShowTubes",, but I have some ideas..

and No Matter HOW many times I told people
"BE CAREFUL THE PIPES ARE HOT"
They still would burn the sh*t out of their legs..
I never burnt my legs.. (I did burn my elbow one time)

here is a drawing of the scoop..

It has much more rounded edges.. but you get the idea..
JC Whitney used to sell ones like this in 3" and 5" tall versions
Does anyone know where I can find a picture of ANY car with this style of scoop on it.?

disclaimer: I am no artist, as you can tell..

Was it the from the 'Revival of the Fittest, Cuda and Camaro GTs' series of articles? They took a 383 'cuda and gave it the AAR treatment installing a 340-6 among other things. I only have the issues containing Part 4 from 10-76 and a recap article from 10-77 neither of which has a cover shot. Those Recaro seats look good in there

No it was a yellow '70 `Cuda
I can see it in my head right now even though I have not seen the pic since June 1976

but it did have the scoop on it like in the last post

Thanks though...
