Falkland, Alabama
« on: August 16, 2008 - 12:24:21 PM »
Wednesday thru friday I was travelling through and near Moparal's hometown of Holly Pond on business. Holly Pond is one of those locations where you can actually hear yourself think and see all the stars at night

When i'm on these trips I try to bring along a camera just in case and actually rediscovered this business in Falkland on Hwy 31. I had been through about three years ago and there were some mid-fifties Buicks out front at the time.A friendly old timer named Fred owns what was once an auto body shop. He said he'd been there 30 years and was now looking to sell. He had hopes that a son would carry on the business but in such a rural area the bigger shops closer to the larger towns are now the place to go. He was more than happy to let me take some shots of these 50-51, 54 Mercurys and the Ford which is a 52-54 model. The Mopar was a Satellite Sebring still containing its original interior.

The last shot was from the side of a Kenworth; the driver was staying at the hotel where I pulled in.

Thanks Matt, nice sled!! While I was speaking to Fred he explained how to spot the diff between the 49-50 and 51s. The 51s had a less rounded rear window as well as more of a tailfin out back to house the taillights. Ya learn something new every day :thinkerg:

Yup, I went past there tonight. Now I am in my shop I had built. You know, give them money and they show up with tools and put it up. I gave them permission myself. :roflsmiley:
