Help w/ 8-track player
« on: August 16, 2008 - 01:58:07 PM »
I did the stupidest thing--I had the little 8-track selector shaft out (the one that protrudes through the dash bezel) and I THREW IT AWAY (thinking it was a little jeweler's screwdriver that I had broken the day before).  :banghead: Of course the garbage went out yesterday.
I went through a lot to get this one since the car's 8-track was missing it. I could totally kick myself.  So...
(1) if anyone has one to sell, I'm very interested; or, because that's improbable,
(2) I'd like if someone could unscrew their's and give me its dimensions then I could maybe have a friend of a friend machine one.
Thanks

Psstol Gripper has some old audio stuff.  He might have an idea or two to help you out.

If someone can post a pic, I'll see what I have lying around.  Don't have a Mopar 8-track, but I'll see if I have anything that will do.

I appreciate your response and your willingness to help, but I'm hoping someone with an 8-track will at least take some measurements of the little shaft.  This site is always helpful so I'm hoping someone will step up.

I can see why you'd think it was a small screwdriver.  Doubt I'll have anything, but doesn't hurt to look.

Those things are pretty much impossible to find.   :pullinghair:

I know this sounds hokey, but perhaps a long screw would work. I'm not sure what threads would work though. I'd guess fine threads.

Or, actually take a jeweler's screwdriver that's about the right size and modify it  :dunno:

I checked out a couple places.  Sent off an email asking if anyone knew of a place to get some, this is the reply I got :

"No, but I wish I did. E bay is the only place to find them .You can find them used and sometimes NOS. Also, you may have to buy an entire C body radio to get one.
That's what I do. Performance Car Graphics is working on reproductions, but that is probably several months away."

Actually I checked with Ward's myself and got the same response.  I'll probably send the unit into them because the radio part never worked.  I'm still hoping that someone will take a few moments to unscrew that piece from their dash and take some measurements.

Thanks, Mike (and Slotts).  Good eye.  I'll bid on it and see how it goes.  Makes me crazy that someone wants $5.50 to mail a half ounce piece.  Moparnut said when he gets back home from a trip that he'll look at his 8-track shaft and dimension.  Appreciate the help.
