Hello my father is finally starting to put his 'oddball' 1971 Challenger back together. It took many, many years however I convinced him to paint it the original color again (FJ6 GreenGo). He had redne the car back in 1985 and tried very hard to get rid of all the green he could. He still doesn't like the color, but the car is so unique and cool I think it is only right. Besides Green Go looks so nice all cleaned up.

Here it is after he first did it back in the day:

Here is the documentation:
I apologize for leaving this pic so large, however this way everyone can read it easily.

While not being a 'high dollar Mopar' it is one of a kind.
The options are all over the map...Maximum cooling package with HEMI radiator, front & rear spoilers, big block HP engine, 4-speed transmission, FJ6 Green Go paint, white interior, white top, white stripes, yet it has H.D. 14" x 6" wheels with wire wheel covers and white wall tires and a flat hood! This is a JH coded car not an R/T. I am not sure if it was an R/T clone so it could beat/fool the insurance companies or import duties/taxes wherever it was slated to go. Maybe the owner just wanted a sleeper, but then why the high impact color?

we cleaned out one of his sheds and found his original numbers matching transmission. This transmission was used in the car its entire life.

My father ripped out the original 383 'Magnum' back in 1985 immediately after purchasing the car. He already had built a 340 'Magnum' engine so in that went. He had no use for the original 383 was throwing the engine out and his buddy Dave said "I'll tuck it under my work bench and it'll be waiting, because one day you'll want back in your car".
Man am I glad Dave thought ahead, back in the 80's nobody gave two cares about originality or numbers matching in a 383 car...
My father swapped out the 340 for a pretty stout 1956 354 HEMI engine shortly afterwards and that stayed in the car until it came off of the road in 1989. The car has been in the garage since then.

  Welcome to the site, Daniel.  Great story about your dad's Challenger.   Dave deserves a cold beer  and dinner for keeping that 383 under his work bench.

Welcome to the site and the Challenger will look great once it is painted back to it's original color. The options are odd and make it a one of one for sure.

Welcome, Daniel!

Very cool story about the car!  Any current pics of the car in the garage?  :clueless:
1972 Dodge Challenger Rallye 340, AT, Code TB3=Super Blue, SBD=8/17/1971.  Yes, a Rallye without the fender louvers from the factory because of the body side molding option.

  • 1971 Superbee, 1970 Challenger R/T
DD,

FJ6 is a love/hate color.  Either you love it or you hate.  I own a 71 Superbee that is Green Go and to me it's the greatest color.  That car is going to be so cool with the green and the white interior, that is just a awesome color combination.  Glad to see Dad going back original!!!

Look forward to seeing more pictures!!!

What a great story and an awesome car! Thanks for sharing Daniel. I would love to see some more pics of it. :picture: I had a "puke" green '73 Barracuda with a white interior. I gotta say whether you like green or not, the two color (green/white) combo's are wicked awesome together!!
