build date question
« on: August 17, 2008 - 10:25:15 AM »
I have a 1970 cuda with no fendertag, sheet, doorstickers or anything.  I think it`s a pretty early one...vin reads 113496.  Is there a way ,maybe by dates in parts, to find out when it was built ?  I`m pretty sure most parts are original to the car.... what parts were date coded, and how to read them?
how close to the actual build date would these dates in the parts be?

not sure on the vin thing, but check the numbers on the build date of the engine, not positive but i believe this should get you close.

...the parts that are not original to the car....;  the 440 ( which is a 1970 )  driver side door,  right side fender, trunklid , seats and int.panels, and I think the ralleywheels or the centercaps since they have the dark 71 color.

There is no way to know the actual build date. The dates on the fender tags & broadcast sheets are the Scheduled Production Date. This is the date that they HOPED to build the car, there is no way to know if any car was actually built on it's SPD.

My original T/A engine is dated a few days after my cars SPD as one example.
