I'm ready to start the front end project but I need help
« on: August 18, 2008 - 12:00:57 AM »
This is Bryce.  Dad had the heart atack a couple of weeks ago so I am going to try to do the front end on the 1971 Dodge Challenger myself. I am 15. We bought the rubber kit from PST the guys that always adverstsie on the back of the Mopar magazines.  We also got the sway bar rubber parts. The best guide I have is ther picture in the ad.  Can you guys help  me to know what to do and  in what order?

Thank you
Bryce

Sorry to heart about your Dad , get better Quick
this could be a long post , jack up the car safely & undo the bolts for the T bars first , then you need to start separating the upper & lower control arms , ball joints etc , you can pry the lower control arm & T bar back as one unit once you have removed the tension , the clips behind the T bars & the nuts on the castrer struts & the lower control arm pivot , then remove the upper control arm bolts & remove you upper contro; arms , you then need to press out the bushings in the upper & lower control arms , you can take them to a shop or use the Muscle rebuild tools , there is a lot more to this , we can help as you go

Bryce,
It would be great if you could find someone on the board that lives in your area that could help you.
I still remember the first time I built a front end. Can be a little tricky the first time. After that they're a breeze.
What part of the world are you in?
Good luck.

Mopar Muscle had a two-part article on K-memeber rebuild in Feb and March 1971.  I have the articles scaned and could send to to you if you would like.  It is a 5mb file so I am unable to upload it here but I could email it to anyone that would like it...

Bryce, give your Dad our best.

Most people here know a lot more than me, but I just finished this job a while back. Chryco's advise will be much better, but I took a lot of pics, and if I can help I'll try to find some to upload; as someone else said, it'll be easier to do in small batches as you go. I did not do the upper control bushings, the upper ball joints or the tie rod ends, but I've still got them in pics.

Under "Account information", you have probably checked the "Hide e-mail address from public" box.
